On a Tromix Saiga 12, with a bbl 10.5" or shorter, is there any gas piston whatsoever?

Does the threaded end of the bolt carrier serve as the gas piston or is there a little stub of a piston?

I am surprised that it doesn't utilize some little stub, but I am sure Tony knows what he is doing!

The 12.5" uses a little piston, a 8" does not. A 10.5"...dunno, but likely the same as an 8".

Did that thing come out of a Tromix Saiga 12, bbl 10.5" or less?

Thanks!

It is threaded female?

Thanks!

No threads, just a smooth cylinder with channels in it.

Maybe we should clear up the confusion here. In the "gas block" there is the little do-hickey as shown. It is free floating and slides back and forth.

But, on the Bolt Carrier, where there is the normally defined "gas piston" attached, there is NONE.

This is my 8" shorty disassembled. You can see the secondary piston on the left along with the gas selector. On the left, you see the bolt carrier with the deleted gas piston where it would normally screw in.

NoAim is correct, all S-12's have a free-floating piston in the gas tube...it's not connected to the bolt carrier.  Tromix shortys are no exception.

That settles that.

Now, if the weapon was not using a shortened bbl/gas system, the bolt carrier would have a rod threaded into it, yes?

Correct. Just like a regular AK.
