I have a Mossberg 835 (the Turkey model) that I will likely keep for possible turkey hunts, rifled barrel for a slug option and maybe use for bumps in the night. I'd rather have my old 870 back, but the Mossberg is here and paid for. But... my wife is enjoying shooting clays and I would also like a semi for clays and birds. That leads me to two questions (or three). Gas guns: I've heard mixed signals from people about the o-rings in the 11-87. Should that really be a concern? How to other gas guns seal the piston area? In other words, Why would a Beretta gas gun not use an o-ring? Size: I know this is a bad question to ask... it's the 12 vs 20. Would it be smarter to get 12s and reload light in order to have that option for larger birds... or just go with 20s which will fill our needs (more softly) for the large majority of our scatter gun shooting? |

I have an 11-87 Sporting Clays that my Old Man got for a song NIB. He was never gonna shoot it and eventually gave it to me. When I got it, I ordered a couple of extra O-rings. With autos, I'm pretty fanatical about maintenance so I really clean that sucker after every trip to the range. After approx. 15K rounds, I have yet to need to replace the original O-ring - YMMV. Some people love 11-87's, others dislike them. I like mine alot. That being said, many women that I know (and their husbands Again YMMV, but if my wife ever got the Jones to become a shotgunner I'd buy Regards - Ed |

Go for a used 1100 20ga. I have an 1120 LT-2 that I have shot literally since I was about 8 years old. I just replaced the barrell seal this year. I'm now 29. I have two 11-87's, one of which is a premier skeet. It basically will shoot itself, I just hold it. Barrell seals are nothing. Buy a five pack from Brownells, you'll still have 'em in 20 years. A san aside, I didn't clean my premier skeet for several years, just wiped down the oustside. And it never jammed on me. |

She's so new at it (~1 year) that she's not really thinking about clay games. Rather, she's not thinking about competitions. We're just shooting at our neighbor's place using a spring loaded bench thrower and a remote thrower. She's just learning and having fun for now. She's tried out his Beretta 390 and likes that pretty well. Her current gun is a Rem 11-48 16ga. I'd like to get her a newer shotgun in 20 or 12 to bring down the cost of shooting factory loads. Still planning to reload one of these days. I'd heard tons of great reviews on 1100s. Tons of people still using them. That leads me to another question. Chokes: The 1100 is a fixed choke. I tend toward removeable chokes. I may not really know what I'm doing with them, but at least I can change them out. That's been my thought. That's why I was thinking 11-87. From what I can tell, I probably can't go wrong with the 1100 or 11-87... just make a choice and roll with it. I'm a Remmy fan because I loved the 870 I had. I like the Beretta 390 but they are a bit more $$. I don't think we'll get to such high fidelity in our shotgunning to see any difference between Remmy's and high dollar stuff. Of course, I also know that it's got to feel comfortable in our hands, mounted and swing and all that. Thanks for the responses! That was refreshing. Other forums I've read about this topic, people do some pretty heavy brand bashing by picking out one component of a design and rip it apart. |

I see that now!hShe is of smaller stature but insists her factory 270 and 11-48 fit her just fine. She's not quite buying in to the "custom fit" idea when it comes to her firearms but does on other things. May have to keep looking at the 11-87 since it isn't priced at over 900 bucks. Thanks! |
