A friend of mine has one and wants to get a shorter barrel and a buttstock/pistolgrip stock. Any idea who would have these or if they even exist. I have turned up nothing in my search. I say pick up a 590 and not worry about it, but he wants to keep what he has.

I do not recall ever seeing accessories for the Savage 67. I recommend an 870, due to the availability of accessories and the versatility of the shotgun. I have a 590 and 870. It it nice to be able to put a bayonet on a home defense gun, but not many barrels are made for it. There are several barrel lengths for the 870. You can pick up an 870 for around $250, or cut the 67 barrel and stock.

I will tell him about those ideas. If he decides to cut the barrel and turn it into a project I will post pictures of the progress.

Damn. He just said screw the whole thing... I was hoping to try something fun. He said it will work fine the way it is. He is right though. Lead still fires out one end. Tac-looking or not.

At one time Choate made poly furniture for the Savage /Stevens M30 & M67 pump shotguns.  The Choate stocks were (IIRC) made for the Savage/Stevens with the tang mounted thumb safety, not the early crossbolt safety models.
Used or NOS might turn up in the EE or the various auction sites.
The problems with the Savage/Stevens shotguns, besides being out of production since the late '80s or so is that the various versions made.  Tang safety vs crossbolt, take down barrel vs solid frame, large diameter thread vs small diameter thread takedown barrels, 1 piece vs 2 piece firing pins, etc.  Makes buying spare & replacement parts a pain.
My suggestion if your friend insists on keeping his Savage for social purposes is to just have the barrel chopped to 18.5 to 20", replace the bead sight & be done with it, maybe add a stock mounted shell holder & a recoil pad.  Unless he does all the work himself he'll have spent a good chunk of $$$ that could have gone to purchasing a used Mossberg 500 that would be much easier to find parts for.  Used Mossbergs go for ~$150 or less from what I've seen.  Used Remingtons slightly more.  Buying an appropriate home defense length barrel will cost more but you can actually find them, plus other accessories.
Unless he's a total cheapskate (or his wife won't let him have more than one gun in the house, etc) keep the Savage as a bird & bunny blaster & buy another shotgun.

Having said that I also have a Savage/Stevens pump that has been turned into a home defense gun.
But I got it dirt cheap & have been using it as a DIY project.  It's not a primary or even secondary defense longarm (more like #7 or further down the list) .  Just an old beater to practice on.  Sometime in the near future it'll get reblued, parkerized or Dura-coated.  Eventually it might end up as a gift to my younger brother.
