Anybody have one? Is it possible to increase the 4 round capacity or is ther mag tube such that this can't be done? Is the flashlight mount readily adaptable to take modern lights?

And the most important question: are they as much fun as they appear to be?

I gots one. It is a pretty fun gun. I dunno about adapting the flashlight to hold a modern one. But i heard about a led conversion. I dont think it is possible to increase capacity. Mine jambs way to much to rely on as a HD shotty. Pretty much no recoil with high brass 3 inch buckshot Mine looks like this ------>

I think they are great, and was lucky enought to get a like new B model with the original Kel flashlight, (wgates011, the one you have pictured is an A model)

I'm sure you could make a weaver rail or some such attachment to screw into the flashlight mount,

some good info can be found here

The magazine CAN be extended.  Back in the mid-80's you could still buy a extension conversion kit, but the company is long gone.

You might contact Choate and ask if they make an extension that will fit the standard High Standard shotguns.
You could probably modify things to get a standard extension to work:
www.riflestock.com/

You can also fit a new aluminum Mag-Lite 2 "C" cell flash light or equivalent light to the gun's mount.
There was an adapter that was sold, but these too have disappeared from the market.
However, you can easily make or have a machine shop make a light adapter.
All that's needed is to make up an aluminum flash light adapter from a short section of aluminum bar stock.

To make the adapter, select a section of aluminum stock that's just slightly wider and longer than the light mount on the side of the gun and approximately 3/8" to 1/2" thick.
Shape one side of the bar to a concave shape that closely fits against the side of the flashlight.

Drill two holes completely through the bar that will just fit over the two mounting pins on the gun's mount.

Drill two more holes through the bar and countersink them to take a pair of flat head Allen screws.

Drill and tap one hole to fit the mounting finger screw on the gun.

Drill and tap two holes into the Mag-Lite body.
Attach the adapter to the light with two flat head Allen screws, and to strengthen it, some epoxy between the mount and the light body.

To use, simply slip the light's new adapter over the two locating pins on the gun's mount, and tighten the finger screw down snug.

The gun's can be fun to shoot BUT.......
First firing one hand with the butt plate rotated and resting against the inside of the elbow can be painful.

Second, the guns are notoriously unreliable, which is what killed them off for police use.
You MUST use full power high brass loads ONLY.  Standard loads will NOT function the gun.

Whatever the reason, the Model 10A and 10B were simply not a reliable design.
I had one and played with it for years trying to get it to operate reliably, and even as a pro gunsmith, I never got it to the point where I could trust it.

The gun is heavy, bulky, and awkward, but was a good idea for close range raid and entry use, which is what it was designed for.

It could have been a great inside the home HD gun IF it had worked properly.

The idea was good, and at one point someone was planning a similar after-market conversion for the Remington 1100 that might have been the best, but as far as I know, the kit was never produced.

I have an A, like it much better than the B, personally.

Choate used to make mag extensions for it and they are oout there.  Then of course there are the OEM extensions.

But these are pretty valued as collectors and I would advise you not to modify anything on the gun beyond original. If you want to make an adapter to allow a new flashlight to fit the mount, that's great, but don't modify the mount itself or do anything to the flashlight.  Just MHO...

It never was a 100% reliable design and any attempt to modify it to that end is going to prove costly and fruitless.  Get yourself something else for HD, keep the 10B as a collector.
