well my girlfriend (god bless her!) bought me a brand spankin new 870 for christmas..never saw it coming..anyway any must haves for this????..this is my first shotgun..it is the synthetic 18'' 7 shot

Pick up a spare sporting barrel for trap and skeet and perhaps alot of ammo and you are pretty much set. Most gunshows will have a barrel monger selling 870 barrels at reasonable prices.

Must haves? Depends on what you want to do with it. Straight out the box it is a great shotgun. I have the some gun, bought it maybe 3 months ago. Love shooting Remington "Sluggers", 2 3/4" slugs. I have put a SppedFeed pistol grip stock, a hogue forearm, and a Tacstar side saddle on mine.

But it is still a great shotgun just the way it is.

Definately sounds like you got a keeper of a girfriend. Congrats on the new 870.

Sweet. Load up on some buckshot and get out there to train with it. Scatterguns are a ton of fun to shoot and they make awesome CQB weapons to boot.

My wife to be also bought me the same modle shotgun 3 mounths ago, I put a shorter forarm and a side saddle on it, and shot the hell out of it. great gun, have fun. it's nice to see I'm not the only one with a perfect women

A keeper. I'd love my wife to be into guns like me. But, at least she tolerates my addiction to a point. On a good note....she bought me ammo for christmas.

Great gun. If you intend to use if for home defense, then it's good to go as-is. Keep it stock. Pistol grips and other "cool" stuff are not necessary and clutter the gun. However, if you intend to go hunting, then you'll want to get a long barrel specific for that purpose.
