I just recently purchased a Mossberg 590A1 18.5" heavy barrel, ghost ring sights. I took my speedfeed stock and surefire 623FA off my 20" bbl 500, and swapped it onto the new 590A1. The box says it fits 500/590, but since the 590A1 has the heavy barrel it seems to want to stick when i rack it to the rear and it's hard to move forward. I checked the side saddle, and the stock bolt several times and finally realized it is the SureFire that is the problem. Does anyone think the 621FA made for the 14" heavy barrel 590A1 will solve this problem? I haven't contacted Surefire directly yet, just wanted to see if anyone had the same problem or knew of a quick fix or modification to this unit. Thanks...

I have the same forend on my similarly setup M590A1 with 18.5" barrel. I took my side saddle off though for other reasons, but it was functioning fine when I had it on.

I'm not sure what could be causing your problem. I imagine it is sufficiently lubed, and you might want to disassemble it again and check it out to make sure nothing is binding up anywhere.

It has been sufficiently lubed and taken completely apart 4 times now. It does functions a lot better, now that I sprayed CLP all inside. The gun smells like CLP and it's oozing out of every hole in the gun. So it's well lubed, and I took the side saddle and stock off and function checked it with the Surefire on it. It's clearly the problem, like there is too much plastic material around the forend nut that when you slide the forend to the rear, it hangs up on the thicker part of the barrel. I just got off the phone with Surefire and told him about the problem. He told me the 590A1 is a 20" bbl and I have to shave the bayo lug down. I'm like no, it's an 18.5" heavy barrel 590A1, he said he's never seen one before, just the 14" heavy barrel 590A1. His advice was to take and shave down little material off at a time and keep test fitting. So tonight that's what I'll try and let ya know how it turns out.

I would use a short piece of pipe or something that fits the contour of the fore end and some heavy grit (#40 maybe to start) sandpaper wrapped around it. Take a little material off and try it, then repeat as needed. Sure as all heck, if you get impatient and don't keep trying the fit, you will take off more than necessary. While that should not harm function, it may look odd. Take material off of both sides evenly and go slow. Once fit is correct, use finer paper to give a more finished look.

Whatever you do, resist the urge to take a 4" belt sander with #36 grit to it!

Alright, problem solved. I got home tonight and filed it down where it rubs the barrel, then reassembled, after about 3-4 times I finally got it to operate like it did on my Moss 500. Thanks for both of ya'lls responses. 90+ reads and 2 replies. Thanks guys!

Glad you fixed the problem, FYI only, the 14.5" mossbergs use a shorter slide assy than the other mossbergs so they only fit factory 14.5" guns..............Udog

Yeah the 14" looks sweet, my buddy has one just like that with same exact setup. He didnt wanna take his surefire off and try it out on mine. They are a bit different, where the forend nut sits up inside the model 621FA and the underside plastic part is more to the middle of the light. The only thing I didnt like about that shotty is the fact you buy an SBS gun and the fact the Surefire unit sticks out past the barrel. I'd post some pics on here if I could figure out a way of doing so. I guess u need a website or some place to host the pics> any free ones?
