| I have a Benelli 12 gauge with 26" barrel with 3 1/2" chamber, and the forcing cone has been extended another 1 1/2". I intend to use 00 Buckshot and I am interested in cornfield range, want to hunt coyotes with it. I have looked and found recommendations to use Improved Modified. Your help would be appreciated |
| if your gonna shoot buck go with Full, IM or M...Modified giving the tightest shot pattern wouldnt go any tighter than the modified....pretty sure thats what they told me at benelli when I called long ago to ask same question....but I would call them to make sure 100% |
Unfortunatly the final word is- spend 80$ on our choke tube. I couldnt really find any info on how much it will tighten patterns or comparison photos. Did I miss it? I would be careful of such a product as recent history is repleat with "revolutionary" choke tubes, but none seem to stay. Anyone remember the Variomix? |
| What is the ID of the Patternmaster for 00 Buckshot, I have bought the different chokes when I set it up for Turkey hunting, but I am trying to avoid some the expense of shells and the of cost different choke tubes, including the shoulder pain. I thought someone who has used 00 buckshot could share their expierence and get me reasonably close |
| I wouldn't go any tighter than Modified with OO Buck. Use a pattern board and see how it patterns with different chokes - IC, Light Mod, Mod and use the one that gives you the best pattern. Different guns and loads like different chokes, it takes some experimentation to find the ideal combo. Try different brands of shotshells too - some guns have preferences in pattern performance. |

Here is a link to the tubes I use, both for clays and bird hunting. www.angleport.com/chokes3.asp?C=138094 In general these tubes give you a denser pattern then a tube of the same choke size. So my IC tube from them is better than my factory tube of the same choke. So in my mind I can go a little farther wtih IC before I feel the need to switch to modified. I own up through modified choke but I never use them for buck. I found that when I had my IC barrel ported on an 870 I use for home defense, the patterns on buck tightened up. That was an unexpected bonus. Kurt of KKF did the work for me. Why not use a slug instead of buck for coyote? Even a few reduced recoil slugs will give you longer range then a tight pattern of buck. I always carry a few slugs when I carry a shotgun. |
| The reason I don't use deer slugs, is that when the coyote sees you, he can be very fast and its tough for me to hit them running with shot, not to mention slugs. I appreciate all the information everyone has taken the time to give me regarding this matter, it certainly helps. |
