| What can cause "stovepiping" or failed ejection in an 870? Weak extractor spring? I get a spent shell stuck in the ejection port every so often on my 870P. Thanks in advance for any advice or help. |

First check/clean the extractor. It's not unusual for 870 ejection problems to be caused by a extractor that's dirty, has a weak spring, or is worn. Disassemble it, and give the extractor, the spring, plunger, AND the hole in the bolt a good cleaning and re-lubing. Next, check the ejector in the left sidewall of the receiver. Check to see if it's tightly in place, isn't worn or broken, and the long, flat spring is OK and hasn't lost it's "spring". Last, try a different brand/type of ammo. |
| I think he's thinking of short stroking in terms of a gas operated rifle...which is really the same thing as short stroking a pump action. In the gas operated rifle there isn't enough gas to push the bolt all the way back. In a pump action, you simply don't rack the slide all the way back. This happens when you don't pay attention. |
