| I have a Mossberg 6+1 590 A1. Does anyone make a plus 1 extension so the mag tube is flush with the end of the barrel. |
|
Off topic but I have a Federal ammo question. Why are the Walmart four packs in 12 gauge offered in both #8 and #7 1/2 but the 20 gauge are only offered in #7 1/2. I have visited Walmarts in most of the Norheastern States and found this to be true. I would love four packs in #9 shot but 20 gauge #8's would be a good start. I need all the shot I can get! |
I'll check on it... to be honest I'm not sure we make a #9 MP load... I'll get back to you tomorrow |

While I'm not too familiar with the Mossberg 590-A1, I seem to remember that it uses a Remington-like barrel ring and magazine assembly. In other words, I think it has the same type of screw-off magazine cap as used on the 870. If so, I'd suggest the following to find out about a one-round extension: 1. Borrow a Remington magazine cap from a buddy or a friendly gun shop and try to screw it on your Mossy's magazine to see if the threads are the same. 2. Call or email Brownell's. They sell one shot extensions for the 870, and they'll know if the extensions are compatible with the Mossberg. www.brownells.com 3. Contact Wilson's who make one-shot extensions, and ask them if they're compatible. |
faris, They look the same, but if you look on the Mossy, the barrel lug locks underneath the magazine cap. |

"Splain this to me. Again, I'm not up on the later Mossberg guns after the 500, and I'd to know if asked. The original poster asked about the 590A1 military and police gun, NOT the Model 500. The Model 500 magazine barrel assembly has a staked in screw on a barrel lug that engages the end of the magazine tube. The screw is tightened and this pulls the barrel into the receiver and holds it. The Model 590 military and police gun is different, The Mossberg web site's manuals section shows the barrel mounting system of the Models 590 and 835 as a Remington-like barrel support ring that slips down over the magazine tube, and a separate tapered magazine cap that screws onto the end of the magazine tube. In the pictures this looks exactly like a Remington system. Is that it, or is there something else not being shown? |
You are right. You have presented a $400 solution to a $300 gun.(Just in a manner of speaking.) Faris, No Mossberg uses a ring from the barrel around the magazine. All Mossbergs use a barrel to magazine endcap. |
|
I'll buy that, but please take a look at the Model 500/835/590 owner's manual here on the Mossberg site and tell me what I'm seeing on the 590 barrel assembly views: www.mossberg.com/selectmanuals.htm It APPEARS to be a close copy of a Remington barrel assembly and end cap system. |

Vang Comp makes a +1 extension for Mossbergs. $75 www.vangcomp.com/ |
Damn, who does your welding
|
Must hurt to be wrong. The 590 and 835 i took apart two hours ago both use the ring rentention. I dont know why you would want an extention on either, but it would be possible if you so decided. The 500 uses the endcap system. Many others do not. |
Only smarts a little... Especially seeing as I have a 590 sitting less that 10 feet away and didn't bother to get out of the chair to go look. |
Big Bear, I looked and could only find the 870 ect. extensions. Is it in another place besides "magazine tubes"? |
|
Guys, I used a matte finished TacStar Rem 870 mag extension (plus 3 rounds) on my early model Mossberg 835 with NO problems. The threads didn't seem to "exactly" match, but it was close enough and nothing stripped, so mounted it up and let it rip. I used my Ulitimate Ulti-Mag for the "special waterfowl" season we had in Texas a couple of years ago. (No restrictions on mag capacity, can use electronic caller, basically anything goes to thin out the huge herds of geese we had a few years back!) It worked great and I had no problems what so ever, so I don't see why a plus one would not work for you on your 590. HOWEVER... I would invest the few cents in a call to Wilson, (think they have an 800#) to ensure that this will work for you. Just my experience and .02 cents worth! BIGGER_HAMMER

It's on the price list. Vang Comp's website has been redone but it's no easier to navigate than the old one. |
Found it... Thanks! |
