The FNP-PLS. I came across this in a Q&A over on the FN forum. :

3. Can you please tell us about the new striker fired FN pistol which made mention on the Michael Bane website? The new FNP-PLS will be available late '08/early '09. It will feature a pre loaded striker system similar to a Glock trigger.

Anybody heard anything about this?

I assume they mean DAO similar to the GLOCK. If so, I can't say where I would want the FNP in that configuration. That is what turned me off of Sig, when they went to the DAK and that is all you could find for awhile. DA/SA is the only way to go IMHO.

There is a market for that type of pistol, though.

In the latest Q&A over at FNF, FNMAN confirmed the striker-fired pistol is a new design and not a retrofitted FNP.

I'm looking forward to it.

GLOCK pistols are not technically DAO.  They are more of a hybrid DA/SA.  The trigger cannot draw and release the striker like a DAO draws and releases the hammer.  The striker has to be partially cocked to "activate" the trigger and allow it to be pulled and released.

Think of it this way: When you dry-fire a GLOCK pistol, the trigger releases the striker and then remains at its rearmost position; it is disabled just like in a SAO pistol.  You need to reset the trigger by cycling the slide.  In doing so, you partially set the striker and reset the trigger.  Now, a trigger pull will draw the striker back to the point of release like in a DAO.

It is a neat system and works similarly in the Walther P99 and XD.  I can't wait to see the FN striker!

Really? That will be very intresting. When my self and KC roughneck were talking about the new pistol I showed him a picture of the old FN49(I think). We both agreed that it would be nice to see a whole different design.

If FN Herstal is going to release a DOA type pistol why not just bring back the FN Forty-Nine and update it a little. Give it the same light rail from the FNP series and maybe have it work off the same magazines.

Probably because it's an old design that didn't do very well. I'm not bashing the 49 in any way, I just think FN wants to put out something totally new.

I've yet to see any prototype/models, so who knows, the new design might suck, and they might actually get more sales with a revamped 49. We'll just have to wait and see.

They already make a DAO FNP, I picked this gem up 2 weeks ago.  9mm compact.

The new FNP (and I'm not even sure it will have the "FNP" name) will have a differen't firing system......THAT is what makes it new.

BTW, how do you like that FNP9M?? And where did you get it?

I haven't fired it yet.  I would like to improve the trigger, but if is shoots anywhere near as nice as my FNP9 does then I will love it.  I really like the smaller size this one offers and with only 1 less round.  I got this from CDNN when they were having a special.  It was some military overrun of some kind.  I think they still have some left but not at what I paid.
