| Has anyone tried using .45 Super ammunition in their FNP45? |
|
I hope you mean with the Super barrel exchange. I really don't think it's a good idea on a stock gun.
Check out fnforum.net, there's a couple guys over there that bought the barrels and tried .40 super. Personally, I don't think it's worth the money or effort, but maybe you have a reason for it. Az |

i mean with a basic model pistol perhaps with some light modifications such as heavier springs, or in any configuration of a FNP45
ive read through as many forums as i can find and have seen one first-person thread from someone who has fired .45 super through an unmodified FNP45. a few hundred fps may not seem like much considering the potential risk but im trying to find out if there is a risk. i know from personal experience as well as multiple first-person accounts from various forums that a USP45 is capable of firing .45 super and am trying to find out if a FNP45 has the same ability. if there is the option of using a hotter load with minimal risk theres no reason not to take advantage of it. |

I recall reading a few times that even +P .45ACP was enough to jangle the cartridges in the mag around enough to affect feeding.
Does the .45super have a different OAL or dimensions to .45ACP? It is pretty well documented that there is not a lot of spare room in the mags. As far as the pressure? If the chamber is fully supported, it will probably handle it. |

thats a shame. HK had the foresight to give the USP45 the capability to use 45 Super yet FN didnt. The 15-round capacity is a major selling point but between that ridiculous slide release and the lack of a supported chamber im having second thoughts. You will need to keep an eye on the OAL of the loaded cartridge as well. Not a handloader myself, but anything slightly out of spec in OAL would drag the nose in the magwell and jam up in the mag. Had this issue with cheaper factory ammo and reloads. Was not the primary reason that I sold mine, but it was part of the overall consideration. Got sick of having to leave Wal Mart with two boxes of American Eagle instead of 6 boxes of WWB. I cannot blame FNH for not designing in the capability to handle .45super. I think that round has fairly limited appeal compared to the intended market. Hk over––engineers everything, so no surprise that they addressed it though. |

That's just it - FNP .45's do not have a fully supported chamber. I wouldn't even think about shooting .45 Super or even .45 ACP+P in these guns. One of the reasons I got rid of mine. I've shot several mags of +P ACP ammo from both my Tactical and regular FNP45, never had a single issue. |

ive never had a problem with my USP45 no matter what i fed it...including cheapo steel-cased wolf ammo. it has never had a problem of any sort that wasnt directly attributed to operator error. i thought part of the testing procedure for the original combat pistol program involved sub-standard ammo? id be wary of a pistol that had issues feeding any factory ammunition.
HK adding the supported chamber is definitely over-engineering but thats why i paid as much for the pistol as i did. the ability to fire .45Super is a nice side benefit in the unlikely event that its ever needed. the only reason im even considering looking at a FNP45 is that 15-round magazine. |

This is just me talking, but I'm MUCH happier being able to shoot lead slugs out of my button-rifled
FNP .45 than .45 Super out of HK's polygonal barrels. How often does one run across .45 Super for sale, as opposed to .45 ACP lead rounds? I personally have never seen ANY for sale outside of a well-stocked ammo dealer's table at a gun show. |

I've seen it once for sale retail. It was next to a box of .357Maxx It is a handloader's round though. This is the case for many oddball calibers. I'm surprised there is ANY factory loaded .45super. |
