I know there's a lot out there as far as complaints on these, but I haven't found much of a fix. The large/diamond grip one locks up pretty well. Which is good...b/c it's the one I use. The others tend to slide a bit (wife uses the pistol as well...). There's a hole in them, which I assume is a carry over from the previous models that used a set screw.

My question is, has anyone tried using a screw in them and if so...what size would it be?

hmm, the hole is there to push down the piece of plastic that locks in the back strap and isn't intended for a screw.  you said you tried the different sizes so it should be kinda obvious how it works?  i mean maybe you could drill and tap a hole in the grip to accept a screw but i'm just thinking out loud and really have no clue if it's possible.

anyways i don't know why they went with that and didn't stick with the set screw.  it's the one thing i don't like about the fnx.

Yeah...I see how the system works...was hoping it could be used for a set screw, too is all

Wife will just have to suffer. She has big hands for a woman anyways

I noticed people tend to put hogue hand-alls over the grip anyway. Maybe try that

That was going to be my $8 fix if I couldn't find some way to avoid the hogues.

That may be the only way.. There is a little play in my backstraps too.. But it doesn't bother me personally

Everyone's complaining about the "moving" backstrap thing. Doesnt bother me at all on my FNX-40. However, some of the crowd over on the FN forums came up with a simple solution....to place a piece of gorilla tape on the rails which the backstraps slides on. well I tried it and I must admit...the backstraps are rock solid (and still easily interchangable). Give it a shot...

What is "gorilla tape"?

Gorilla Tape

Gorilla glue and tape is becoming a very epopular glue and epoxy company...I have used the 5 minute epoxy and have to say it works great.

Thanks, I have used their glue but never knew they had tape as well.

the other three will come darn near all the way off when just handing the gun. I'll give the tape thing a shot.  Heck...way we ran weapons in the army, I'm not necessarily opposed to a strip of 100mph tape around the grip

I find the backstrap I like, and just put a small amount of gorilla glue on the rail to secure it.  I really have no reason to keep changing straps, so this is what works for me.

I used a drop of super glue.

I have never understood the constant need to change back straps.

Must be a cell phone generation thing.

I'm not the cell phone gen...I'm 35

And if anyone read the original...it's b/c right now it's a gun both the wife and I will use...until I get something for her only. At that point, I won't have an issue making the back strap permanent...

and to sidetrack my own thread...shot it today. Shoots great...but I use 147g stuff. Assuming that's why it was consistently hitting low? can you get sights adjusted for that on a pistol? (more used to the AR world...first pistol I've actually owned..) Grouped well for what I was doing, which was fairly quick shots (3-4in groups or so at 10m), just low.

You are aiming low.

The FNX (and FNP series before it) have "combat zero" type sight regulation.  Point of aim is point of impact.  If you use the standard target shooting "six o'clock hold" it will shoot low.  Put the dot on the front sight over what you want to hit.

Remember, this is a true service grade pistol, not a target pistol.

I use 147gr. for my defense load and it shoots to point of aim, as do 115 and 124 gr. fmj ball practice ammo.

Just try it.

I'll give it a shot. You're right, I generally aim with the dot right below the target....so the top of the front sight is at the bottom of the number on the target. I'll cover it with the dot next time and see how it goes.

Really do like the layout and ergonomics of the gun, though. Only previous ones I've used were a friend's Glocks and obviously the M-9 Beretta.
