So here was the original problem:

"I have a Ruger MK II target pistol that is great fun when it works. However for years now I have had a problem with it jamming. I have tried a variety of ammo and fixes, but nothing has done the trick. The problem is that often the gun will fail to extract a round, and the empty shell will stovepipe out of the chamber. At first I thought this was due to a worn out extractor claw, so I replaced that with a titanium one. This did not improve things. I have taken it to a shop, but they just told me to "clean it really well", which I do, and at best the gun will work flawlessly for about 20 rounds, and then start exhibiting this behavior again. "

After a few months of tinkering around and cleaning it and generally cursing the gun, I got around to ordering some replacement parts from Ruger.

KA02200 – EXTRACTOR
KA20300 – EXTRACTOR SPRING
KA-57 – Recoil Spring Assembly

In total, about $15 in parts after shipping.  I installed the parts on Monday, and today I went through 9 mags flawlessly.  I just wanted to post the resolution in case anybody else runs into the same problem.

If your Ruger MK II starts jamming, stove-piping rounds, and you've already cleaned the gun until it shines: it's time to buy new springs.

Thanks for the heads up, complete with part numbers. If my MK II starts acting up, I'll look at this solution.

I'll let you in on a little gunsmith secret.
99.99999% of the time, the problem with most guns is worn out or broken springs.
SHHHHHhhhhhh!!!!

Thanks, I have an old Mark I doing the same thing.  I suspected it was the extractor and or springs, but haven;t gotten around to doing anything about it. Looks like a quick order is on the menu now!  Did you order from Brownell's or does Ruger sell parts directly?

I ordered the parts directly from Ruger.  It's a bit of a pain because you can't do it through their website.

Thatnks for posting this.

Could you narrow it down to a particular spring that was the culprit?
