| Got a New Voltahne Grip and want to replace stock slide release with Volquartsen extended one what do I do |
|
Quoted: Did not come with instructions ![]() Rimfire Pistol Forum Help & Links Page, found at the top of the Rimfire Pistol forum topic list. (IIRC, field strip, take the grip panels off, drive out the pins holding it in, replace slide release, pins, and grips) |

Quoted: How Long should it take i dont see anything on actually replacing slide release just field stripping? The Guntalk links on the page I linked above covers it all. It would take me about 4 minutes I guess. If you're not familiar with field stripping the Ruger MKx series pistol, it may take quite a while. Many struggle with field stripping them. If you're not the type who wants to know about how to work on your pistol, you might consider taking it to a smith. If you're fairly mechanically inclined, you shouldn't have any trouble with it at all. It's fairly intuitive, with the hammer strut being the only glitch that many stumble on. (covered extensively in the links on the page I posted earlier) |
| ok been reading the info you supplied i guess my question is what is connected to hammer pin once you take it out so the slide release can be replced i believe I can do it but dont want to remove or lose any springs? can the slide release be removed without messing up the natural order of things?, That seems to be the final step when field stripped? |

IIRC, the hammer & bushings have to be lifted out in order to remove and replace the bolt release. But if you pay close attention and work slowly, you should be able to replace it without any trouble. Keep in mind, I'm going off of memory. I've had dozens of these apart, but not recently. If you decide to proceed and get stuck, feel free to ask along the way. Worst case scenario, I'll go out to the shop and take one apart, and take some pictures for you. But all that should be covered in the links provided. The sear position is the only critical point when removing & replacing the hammer, and it's pretty obvious where it goes. One tip that may help you if you have a digital or polaroid camera; take a few pics of it (the inside parts) together before disassembly. I do that sometimes when it's a gun I haven't worked on before. Very helpful. |

Quoted: well got the slide release changed no problem but now gun will not cock or fire now what do i do You did good. You're at the point mentioned earlier, 'the hammer strut'. (most likely) We've done dozens and dozens of threads on that subject. It's all in the links above, but let me see if I can find something that will help.... Here you go, this has helped many Keep us posted |

Quoted: ok got bolt out notice there is a small tongue that kinda flops around on back sideof trigger what is it? That's likely the hammer strut hanging off of the back of the hammer. When you install the last (final) piece of your pistol, (the MSH... Mainspring Housing), it's critical to properly place the strut within the MSH. That's best accomplished with the muzzle pointed upwards, allowing gravity to align the strut to properly engage the MSHs' plunger. (hint: pull trigger to allow hammer to fall backwards first) (pistol unloaded and chamber CLEAR of course) The sole source of confusion with these pistolas. Please review the links provided, or repost and we'll coach you through it. If assembled correctly, the pistol will cock and fire correctly. If not, the bolt will not fully cock, nor fire. .... kinda foolproof. |
Now it cycles, fires and ejects ok, but when there is one round in the pipe the indicator works but when you try to eject or release mag it will not release, I litterally have to rack the remainging 9 rounds to get the empty mag to release, Don't have a clue what that could be ?

I haven't owned or handled the newer MKIII, with the LCI, (loaded chamber indicator). If you don't get an answer here, you might consider starting a new thread with that specific question. |
