| My Buckmark has several thousand rounds through it and has been having some issues lately. First every mag seemed to have at least one ftf/fte then my latest issue is almost every shot does not go bang. It is indenting the rim of the case but possible not enough to ignite the primer? I have always ran Federal brown box through it with no problems till now. Could the firing pin or spring simply be worn out? |

You didn't wear it out. Clean it well. Scrub the chamber with solvent and a bronze brush. Make sure all the crud is off the face of the bolt and the breech. A dental pick is handy to clean where the rim fits into the bolt. Clean the firing pin and channel. This would be my first attempt to resolve it.
I recently read of a shooter who had a similar problem and he traced it to a beat-up firing pin (where the hammer hits). The end of the pin was peened to the point it couldn't travel forward enough to properly strike the rim. I doubt it's the problem I found on a used Buck Mark I bought several years ago. Somehow, the internal part of the safety could end up interfering with the cup on the end of the mainspring plunger. I don't know if the PO bent the safety or what happened to it. The fix was to take a few thou off the internal metal of the safety. You could check this by removing the left grip and observing to see if the safety can be pressed down a bit and make the plunger hang up. |

Like Chim said, a good cleaning should help a lot. He's the Buck Mark guru come over from Rimfire Central (sorry dude, your reputation precedes you).
Generally though, when I have this issue, it just means that the rear screw holding my top rail down/holding the gun together has vibrated itself loose. A quick tweak with the supplied allen wrench and it's back to dependable. I keep meaning to look into a temporary thread lock solution, but I'm a little hesitant. |
