Good morning all.

I have a Ruger Mark II Competition Target that I have not fired for approximately 12 months, this morning I tried to strip the weapon to inspect/re-lubricate it for a trip to the range with a friend this afternoon. After I made the weapon safe it I opened the mainspring housing latch but I was not able to rotate the housing out, and no matter what I do it will not rotate out of the weapon. It is loose in that I am able to grasp the latch and slightly shake the housing fore/aft and side to side but it remains in position, when pulling to open it does not “bind” but feels as if there is something blocking its travel.

When I close the latch I find that the slide will only retract to 1/3 before it stops, at this moment I can feel the mainspring housing move slightly in the web of my hand, but upon opening the latch again the housing still will not rotate out. I have removed the grips but this does not allow me to see anything, any suggestions on what to try next?

Thank you, Adriana

That does not address the problem in any way, I know how to disassemble this weapon and have done so a great many times. This problem has never occurred before and is what I am seeking help with.

The hammer strut is not in proper place and may be bound under the cross-pin.

Found here...

On this page...

Make sure the pistol is safe and pull the trigger to 'unbind' the strut. This will allow you to disassemble and reassemble correctly.

Point it towards the floor or even slightly down and back.  Pull the trigger and wiggle the mainspring housing at the same time.  You may need to tap the gun gently on a carpeted floor while doing this.

You need to get the hammer completely upright against the firing pin of a closed bolt and since your hammer strut isn't in the mainspring cup for the spring to push upward you will need to use gravity to do it.

I discovered the problem and it was not the hammer, strut, housing, etc. The pin on the latch for the housing had became loose and was not allowing the housing to pivot out. I discovered this after I started to disassemble the weapon to try and find the problem, now I just need an exploded diagram to get it all back in place.

Anyone know of an on-line drawing?
