alot of differences between a MKII and MKIII. You have to see what you want and honestly you cant really compare one used older model with a NIB updated model. ANY MKI or MKII, I wouldnt pay more than 200bux for. Dont forget that 265 will be more OTD, you have to add tax and phone call NICS check. It really depends on what you want, some ppl like the new features of the MKIII. I have a MKII that ive had for years and wouldnt trade or sell it for anything. |

I went back to the gun shop and had another look at the Ruger MKII... it turns out that the BBL is 8" long not 5.5" and the pistol has something about government target blah blah blah... engraved on the barrel. I decided to go ahead and put a deposit on the pistol, since it is a MKII and they no longer make these . I feel that the price was "fair" perhaps not great, but I really wanted the pistol. any opinions/ history on my purchase? Thanks in advance |
It was made in 1992..
www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/PS-SerialNumberHistory-PI.html# Thats about all I know. Mine was a standard target model til I dumped the upper and barrel for the Tactical solutions upper/barrel and Gemtech outback Can. |

.22s are THEE best learning tool PERIOD. I think you did well. Im a cheap bastard and my buddy runs a gun shop, so I get better than average prices. But like others have said, Id pay for a good MKII over a MKIII. The new features of a MKIII are good, but ive had my MKII so long that Ive learned to accept how it shoots and functions. Ive got over 7000rds thru my MKII easily, NEVER any issues, Never any breakage or stoppage. Even when I added the Tac Solutions upper. ALso with that many rounds thru it, it is SMOOTH. most ppl think its had a trigger job or polished hammer, nope just shot alot, which will smoothen things very nicely. So, go shoot the shit out of it and not worry. (unlike the P22s, lol) |

It appears to be the 6 7/8" barrel version to me, also referred to as the "Government Target" IIRC. The distributor "Davidsons" once offered an 8" barreled version of the Ruger MKII if memory serves. It was blued with a bull barrel, and was sold under the name, "Great Eight". Seems like that was around 1999-2001. I never saw one personally, but their advertisements offered them heavily for a while. Great pic! |
