I just got a new 22/45 mkIII and decided to try to take it down, following the disassembly instructions, before i took it out shooting the first time. I checked to make sure it was empty, put in the mag and dropped the hammer. I them went to pull out the portion of the backstrap for disassembly. Since the gun is new i couldn't get this peice out and re-latched it into the grip aand reinserted the empty mag. now for the fun part. I again tried to remove the peice for disassembly and it would not pull out all the way. I tried removing the magazine and charging the gun and it does not cock the hammer. Can anybody help me? |

Pull the MSH clip down and cam the MSH (back strap) away from the frame. Hold the trigger with the mag in, point the muzzle down, and uncock the hammer with a small tool (push it up/forward). You will note that the hammer strut is just flopping around, and thats a good thing. Now with the muzzle about 45* upwards, reinstall the MSH (back strap) and relock the cam. With the muzzle up and the hammer uncocked, the hammer strut will fall into place (into the MSH plunger) when the MSH is reinserted/locked. Also, to tell if the strut is in the Plunger correctly, just try to cock the bolt. If strut is not in the MSH plunger correctly, the bolt will not come all the way back. P.S. To get the MSH (back strap) out of the frame, unlock it, cam it away from the frame, and pull it down as you give the grip of the pistol a hard tap on the table. To get the barrel/receiver off once you have removed the bolt/mag (again, watch the hammer strut so it doesn't bind up as the hammer cock back pulling the bolt), Hold the frame and give the back of the receiver a hard tap on the table to drive it forward. www.guntalk-online.com/fsprocedures.htm |
