Before I begin, this isnt a question about pac lite uppers. I put this question on another board and was told to get one. When I replied and said that it cost more than the gun did I was then told again right after that to look at the pac lite uppers.

Anyway, I am looking to thread the barrel on my MKIII and maybe get it shortened too while I am at it. I once saw a kit that was a threaded barrel and cant find it now. I also wanted to know what smiths do it at a decent price. Thanks.

Clark Custom and Volquartsen Custom are the two I'd trust.

The barrel in the ruger is crush fit in. Removal of the barrel either destroys the original barrel or the receiver unless the gunsmith has the proper tools. Which most dont.  I would expect you could get the barrel threaded and the front sight moved back for around $100  threading only no sight for maybe $50.  Installing a new barrel would probably cost more than a new gun.

There is a reason the Pac-Lite is so popular.

A gunsmith can't do much work on a $200 gun before it's just easier to buy another gun.

If you wanted a gun that can accept a barrel change then a Browning Buckmark would have been a good choice.

here is probably what you saw. These are left over from the SWD silencer days, no one uses that style mount or thread pitch any more.  Plus by the time you buy this and pay to have it installed it will cost you more than a new gun.
