Was the Glock 44 a Miss? (Page 2 of 3)

| Glock dropped the ball with the gun by not making it the size of a 17 or a 34. With clubs holding steel challenge matches, shooters can compete in rimfire and then carry optics with basically with the same gun. Now that sig and taurus mastered the mags that hold more than 10rds, there's no reason glock can't make hi cap mags |

My G44 has been great and eats literally everything I put in it. When I added a red dot using a Strike Industries mount it went to crap, so I put it back to stock and it has been great ever since. I'd like to put on a Nelson Machine slide on it, but I have a TX-22 with a dot, a Ruger MK III Hunter with a dot and a Ruger MK IV 22/45 with a dot, so it's not high on my priorities list. But yes, Glock missed the mark when they did the G44. Polymer slide you cannot put a dot on and 10 round mags. That said, I wish they would make a G42 sized .22 LR. I would snap that up in a hot minute. |

I think i looked into the cut slide thing, and it has pretty much been decided a non started. People seem to be having trouble with their AA red dot slides, and it looks like the weight of the optic throws the reliability out the window. Ebay has tons of chinese knock off ALG 6 second mounts for ~$50. And now that alg no longer sells theirs, there isn't really a moral question about buying a knock off. I've seen a few people do it now, and everyone seems happy with it. Keeps the reliability up. I haven't gotten around to ordering one yet, but thats been my plan. |

I got an AA kit for Glock 17 and minus some user induced issues, now rectified, it has been completely reliable with all ammo. For those of you with an AA kit, the striker spring is proprietary. If you swap in a different spring (the AA springs are larger diameter than most Glock striker springs) then you will end up with light strikes caused by burrs forming on the striker and interfering with the plunger safety. The skinnier spring lets the striker not center itself in the channel; on firing it skims the plunger safety and creates a burr. Over time, the burr starts to interact with the plunger, causing light strikes. Also, if you take your AA striker assembly apart, there is a skinny end of the spring. The skinny end is where the cups go. Doing it backwards can also cause the burr / light strike issue. Ask me how I know all this. |

Yeah, that was my observation as well, the AA kit seemed incompatible with GPT. I went the opposite route and ditched the GPT. Can't really understand why they would not be compatible; if the AA kit works with normal trigger, why not GPT? In terms of striker lug interaction, the sear is just shaped differently. With mine, in order for the trigger to reset, I had to keep the trigger held back while cycling the AA slide. With normal trigger you can dry fire, release the trigger, cycle the AA slide, and it will reset. Granted, 99% of the time while shooting the slide will be back in battery before you can think to release the trigger, but still, since it was acting funny I never tried to shoot it. Edit to add: Oh yeah, PSA: the AA kit is NOT drop safe with a Vex trigger shoe. The shoe takes up so much pre-travel that the plunger is ALWAYS engaged. At least with the G17.3 kit. |
| I tried to like mine…….., but I couldn’t mount a red dot on it, 10 round mag (I did mod one to hold 12), not as accurate as my Ruger MK II, III or MK IV, trigger was just ok, and I got a ton of crap to the face when shooting it suppressed. I sold mine after a little after a year, a miss IMO. |

The 44 is hated here. And Ive found mine to be utterly reliable suppressed with all types of ammo. Even the subsonic rifle only ammo. But then again the best can Ive found for mine is the Sparrow. Which is also equally hated here. |
Dont call it a comeback, Been here for years.

I put reliability at the top of the list and the Glock runs very well. I took mine to 3k without cleaning or additional lube and it ran 99% |

I love my G44. Super reliable, easy to clean, shoots very well, provides realistic training. What goes unmentioned is that it's also super lightweight as a 'kit gun' / toss in a jacket or backpack pistol with some ammo. G44 w/ Mag + 50rd box of ammo is ~22oz, weight of an empty G19 with no mag. |

Attached File I have not shot it yet. Covid, a murdered step-daughter, lymaphedema (not able to wear shoes), a fall with broken bones, wife having two major surgeries, a "mild" heart attack, a stent, and an upcoming heart valve replacement, and WTF next... have gotten in the way! But it looks pretty cool... ya think! ETA... I don't have a photo with the Surefire X300 Ultra mounted to the chassis |

I thought about going with a DeltaPoint Micro at first. I was concerned about mounting it into a plastic slide body rear sight dovetail. Wondering if the plastic of the slide body would fail at some point. Between the RMR and the sight chassis, it cost more that the G44! The chassis was designed to use a SureFire X300U-A... what can I say. I try not to think about the total cost of this pistol, especially for a .22lr. |

From a price/features/capacity standpoint, the G44 was absolutely a miss. Taurus of all companies spanked them with the TX-22. G44 = $380-$420 > 10rd capacity, no optics mount and the thread barrel is an additional cost. TX-22 = $280-$320 > 16rd capacity, Gen2 TORO model (or the comp model) are optics ready and they all come with a threaded barrel. As for reliability, I have a Gen1 TX-22 and a P322 and both have been 100% reliable. My bonus son has a G44 and he does on occasion have issues with it. If you just have to have a Glock then I guess but otherwise, there are plenty of better options out there IMO |

The G44 is a miss when it comes to being able to mount an optic. But the G44 is very reliable. I stopped counting rounds fired through mine when I reached 20,000 rounds. If I had to guess, I would say at least half that number is while using the ProMag G44 magazines. The ones I have are just as reliable as the factory magazines. The videos showing the G44 being unreliable were mostly due to not loading the magazine correctly. The other issue was from using the cheapest bulk ammo they could find. |

Reliability and accuracy plus the ability to suppress are my priorities. |

I have had my G44 for almost 5 years and I have had no issues other than it shooting a bit high, solved with a taller front sight Glock sent for free. Reliability is up there with my Ruger MkIV's. I did put a Farrowtech aluminum striker sleeve in it over concerns I had with the stock polymer unit getting dinged up, and I recently bought a used threaded barrel for it off the EE and installed a Tandemkross comp. That being said, I don't like being pretty much stuck with the stock polymer sights.....yes I know you technically can put steel Glock sights on it but I don't like the idea of jamming a steel sight into a polymer dovetail. And I also don't trust the polymer recoil spring lug at the front of the slide, although I have never seen reports of them breaking. I recently picked up a pair or TX22's and I do have to admit they are the superior option in pretty much every way. |

You definitely need to be careful with aftermarket metal Glock sites as some are wider than others. I have seen G44 slides broken when an over sized rear metal site was forced into place. |

| The only real issue I've had with mine is that I'm having feeding issues with a new threaded barrel. I'm assuming that it's just needing to have the edges worn in, so I'm just going to hand cycle it a fair bit before the next range trip. Figure it's -40 here so it's not like I'm going shooting anytime soon. |

| When I got my G44, I installed a red dot on a Strike Industries SPUR mount and sighted it in with CCI Stingers. It worked great for awhile and then went to crap. Now it is pretty much bone stock with Ameriglo Fiber optic sights and it has been trouble free ever since. It will eat whatever I shove in it and ask for more. I have been on the fence about the Nelson slide, so we'll have to wait and see about that. Now that Glock finally came out with 15 round mags for it, It makes it a more viable option as a training pistol for the G19. |
|
The Taurus TX22 is a great choice suppressed, unless you want to use high velocity ammo. You MUST only use subsonic ammo suppressed. High velocity moves the slide too fast which causes multiple issues/jams/feed failures. I had no idea, until a family member pointed out that the owners manual clearly states to only use subsonic ammo, -suppressed-. I have zero problems with subsonic ammo suppressed, but even with a heavier spring weight recoil spring assembly, high velocity ammo causes malfunctions. I stick with Ruger MK pistols for suppressed with high velocity ammo. Edit for -suppressed- |

I hope they make a G17 and G19 Gen6 .22lr where the bulk of the slide stays put and the "slide" is just a little bit of metal similar to the 22/45. This will greatly help with reliability, especially with an optic. I'd buy at least one of each. This really shouldn't be hard to do. The G44 makes no sense to me. |
24,000+ rounds through mine. I cant kill it. im talking mag dump after mag dump, run it under water to cool it off and kept on shooting. no problems. Most of that ammo was golden bullets and fed AM.![]() 14,000 rounds of that was with the HF Braun lignt and thats still working. |
