You seem more wound up than him. All the Rugers are drilled and tapped and many come with rails already. I absolutely believe that many people would prefer to buy an American made high cap gun over a Taurus. Lots of people thought Ruger shouldn't get into the AR market because it was saturated and yet they've done really well there. An OEM like Ruger could manufacture a high cap version for roughly the same cost as the normal one because of the scale they operate at. One thing a lot of people don't really get is that when you have a really big company like Ruger there are people and stores that will buy everything you make. You could have a store that only sold Ruger and cover most of the market. |

I don’t think they are any less of a household name than Ruger is. Just saying. |

But you also didn’t word anything in your post strictly around quality either. IMO Ruger has plenty of product lines that are mediocre at best, but that’s just me. Taurus is doing an incredible job of turning their quality issues around since Bret joined. Some of their product lines are actually quite good and their QC issues have dramatically decreased. For the sake of this conversation, I’d say generally speaking a MK IV is a considerably better quality gun than a TX-22. But the price also reflects that. Like I’ve said before, Ruger isn’t losing sales to Taurus because the TX-22 has better mag capacity. They’re losing sales to Taurus because the TX-22 costs half what a MK IV does. The two simply don’t compete in the same price segment, and for good reason. |
| Yes I understand Taurus is cheaper. The point we are trying to make is that Ruger would sell high cap versions in their price bracket. People buy $1000+ 22s every day. There is a customer for every budget. |

Not sure why it’s so hard for so many people in here to believe without MuH pRoOf. Sounds like a bunch of Gen z liberals any time someone says the slightest thing they don’t like. Edit: Sigs numbers are absolutely over inflated by govt weapons. Not to mention Sig makes a lot more than just pistols, unlike Taurus. I guarantee you 90% of people who know of or have heard of Ruger absolutely have heard of or know of Taurus. |

Let's get this back on track. With the advances in 3D printing I'd like to at minimum see stripped 22/45 frames printed. Then maybe design or modify a TX-22 mag, cut the top off and graft on a 22/45 mag top half. Similar to Stealth Arms Platypus. Could maybe even pitch the idea to those guys. I'm going to def call Ruger and see if I can get a frame from them. Wirthwein sells frames but they costs more than a complete pistol... I have an upper half that was orphaned when I built out my night time tactical mkIV |
|
I agree, a metal framed higher capacity 22/45 MKIV (preferably with a 5" slab side barrel) is damn near my grail gun. The frame bothers me just as much as the capacity. I mean if they can make a metal framed standard MK for the same price as the 22/45's then there is no reason that can't offer a metal framed 22/45. That said, while Ruger might surprise us, I'm not holding my breath. ETA - I do already have the TX22 and P322 and while I love the capacity of them and integrated optic mounts, I still prefer the 22/45 overall so if I could get a metal framed high capacity 22/45, I'd probably get rid of a lot of my other rimfire pistols |

I'd keep the P322 and sell the TX22 for a few reasons. I am a self admitted Sig fanboi but beyond that, the Sig fits me better and it has higher capacity (with the flush mags) and is optic ready. It also has a thicker barrel which may not matter but I still prefer it. Neither gun is "finely crafted" but the Sig does seems a little better made but that could be my bias for Sig? I never thought I'd own a Taurus and the TX is still the only Taurus I do own or would consider owning. All that said, if I had the newer Toro version of the TX, it might be different story? The Toro model is optic ready and I believe the barrel is threaded in way that doesn't require you to remove the thread adaptor to remove the slide for cleaning? That's pretty cool if true so and might be enough to change my mind? I probably giving my TX to one of my kids but if I happen across a Toro model new for under $300, I might pick it up just to see? That's what I did with my current TX22, got it for $275 and probably would have remained happy with it if the P322 never came out. |

Sounds like you may be referring to the MkIII, which I understand is out of production. If you have a MkIII w/o removable grip panels and would like a factory frame, you may want to check out Wirthwein. Not cheap, but cheaper than a VQ frame. Sounds like they may have changed their policies. This was back before the Mk IV came out, and yes, it was for the Mk III 22/45. I picked up a good used model with the non removable grip panels and waned the grip frame that used 1911 grip panels, as they looked so much better. I called ruger and asked to purchase one and they refused. They said if mine was damaged, they would replace it, but it would be the exact same one that was on it, I could not request a different one. They said they do not sell grip frames. I posted a thread on RC and they all said the same thing. Seems some people would grind off the sides some, then install 1911 grip bushings and panels, but it was not very strong as the plastic was thin. I ended up selling it and buying a new one with the wood grip panels already on it. Still have it and actually shot it yesterday. |

Definitely interested in this as well. Have been debating buying one of these uppers to 3D printing a lower of my design to take another magazine. But definitely will be sending Ruger an email. Really dumb that they never decided to offer a model with an upgraded magazine capacity. It's not like the 10 round version would go away. Edit: didn't see the price was answered on the second page as there was no second page loading at first. Hopefully will get lucky and get a complete frame for $80 as well. |

As I just posted on RFC... The mag capacity laws are irrelevant. Just pin 'em, and you're GTG. Look at S&W with the M&P 15-22. Their MD legal mags are just their regular mags pinned at 10 rounds. I'm with you OP. It's been shown that reliable mags can be made (heck, if Taurus can do it...). Other than die-hard, "set in their ways" types, there is no downside. |
| The Fudds at Ruger are too stupid to see if they would make a 2011 frame that holds a shit ton of 22 rounds, the guns would be flying off the shelves. As long as the guns are hunks of fucks, they would fly off the shelves. A 5'' 2011 would make an excellent steel challenge gun |

I've owned several Ruger .22 pistols. The primary reason that I don’t anymore, and have zero plans to get another, is magazine capacity. If Taurus, Sig-Sauer, & Kel-Tec can do it, Ruger could if they wanted. If they (Ruger) introduced a MK pistol with 15 or greater mag cap, I'd buy one in a second. Mmmmmmm, crow. It's what's for dinner. Scored a deal on a MkIV Tactical and couldn't resist. |
