Picked up a "post war" Colt Official Police .22LR Sun at a gun show in Louisville. 6" bbl for those keeping score.

I had never seen one of these in all my years of show attendings & jumped on it PDQ. I got it for $450 OTD on a private sale so the price was (IMO) reasonable.

My question is, how rare are these? Were many made or are their owners just sitting on them?

Pics will follow tonight or perhaps tomorrow night. It appears to be a safe queen, IMO. Bore is REALLY pristine, something that can't be covered or hidden.

They are not very common. The concept was as a training gun for police departments but most just trained with light wadcutters in 38's. Some departments that bought them used them for shooting teams but most competitive shooters would want adjustable sights. Similar to the rarity of s&W model 45 revolvers. A few departments bought them for training but they are unusual. I think you did well at that price

A great pickup at a great price.
I have only seen a couple, as most of the .22 revolvers were adj. sight models.

I thought it was an uncommon piece. Oddly enough, I got it on a Sun & it sat thru the Fri & Sat attendees....................
