I did a little horse trading today at the gun show. When you wait until the last 30 minutes before they close on a slow, slow, slow weekend to do the deal, sometimes you get lucky!

I first saw this gun in person 2-3 months ago at a little podunk country gun show & just fell in love with it. Never thought I would be able to afford one as they weren't cheap! But I was able to trade a Browning Challenger II for it with some serious cash & got it!

The trigger on this thing is simply AMAZING! It feels around 2-1/2lbs or so, possibly 2lbs. Can't wait to get it to the range & see how well it does! One thing that is truely odd about this design is the trigger is upside down! Not sure why as I'm not a design engineer, but it certainly works!

The pics are ones I stole off of Gun Broker as it's the exact same model & size as mine.

The Walther GSP in .22LR:

Very nice, looks like it shares DNA with the wa2000.

I have one of these that I shoot in bullseye matches. There are a few things to know about the gun because Walther changed the design when they dropped the safety, and the newer parts don't fit the older pistols. Earls Walther is the only place I know of in the US that has parts. They have tons of parts and they aren't ripping anyone off, but if you try and order through Champions Choice you'll end up with GSP Expert parts that don't fit. Ask me how I know. The grips are held on by the screws on each side. Later grips are held by a single bolt through the bottom of the grip. Be careful if you're buying used grips because 99% of what's for sale are the newer ones, and they don't work on the older pistol without modification.

I'm assuming it's a .22lr pistol, so the trigger is maxed out at 1k gram in weight, which is just over 2#. There is a 22 short triger group that fits the same pistol, but using .22lr will beat the snot out of it. Magazines are not the same as the new guns. Again Earl's has them, but they are $75 each.

I've been shooting Aguila SE as my match ammo through an IZH35 and a 22\45 with no issues. The Walther chamber is tight. It won't chamber 15-20% of the Aguilla rounds. I went to Wolf ME and the problem dissapeared. I've also had good luck with Federal Auto Match, but the Wolf is more accurate.

The trigger is hindged at the bottom, but it has a short travel so it feels like a 1911 trigger to me. You can adjust it for just about anything you can think of in terms of travel, and it adjusts for angle as well. I was shooting 280 on the NMC with my last .22 match pistol and I don't think I'll get much better with this one, but with the Walther I'm out of excuses.

Nothing like a good pistol to let you know how bad you can shoot.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, it's a .22LR caliber & not the .22short version. The grips are fine with me as I can get my large hands in there w/o any issues.

Champion's Choice is (thankfully or regrettably, I don't know which   ) located just 15-20 minutes from me. In fact, I just bought my Anschutz from them as well as a case of match/practice ammo. So if something doesn't work, I'll just run it right back to them. They list mags @ $68 each!

Never heard of "Earl's Walther", so thanks for that heads-up as well!

I used to have one when I was still serious in ISSF that had all kind of Gehmann upgrades. There is a lot of accessories for sale for the GSP, there are different trigger groups with different weights and even a dry fire unit. There are extra weights from W. Gehmann and folding front sights for ISSF available and then there is the Walther plastic case that accepts the pistol and accessories and keeps them well organized.
There is also a .32 S&W Special conversion for it.

It is an amazing shooter and you will like it.

Yeah, I was aware of the .32WC kit as CC sells them as well. I asked about a dry fire kit but their salesman wasn't aware of one.

Given the $$ this thing costs & my 53 year old eyes, I doubt I'll be swapping in any other trigger kits.

If I ccould get an import license, I'd get another one. The higher price is a buy now price. Isn't it a joke???

I got to go to a local indoor range & ran a box of German .22 target ammo thru it. I ended up having to crank the rear sight all the way down in order to get POA/POI. I ended up shooting about 20 yards~.

I would've had a nice tight group had killthewabbit not been running his target back & making the whole GD string bounce.................

All in all, I am VERY impressed with this gun! I hope to test it against my S&W 41 & Beretta 87-Target down the road.

Shot it for the second time last weekend. Man, this thing is FAB-U-LOUS!!!!!!!

As much as I leg-hump my S&W model 41, I'm afraid I'm going to cheat on her................

I do have to paint the black front sight as it simply disappears when I use the Shoot-n-See targets with the black background.

That is pretty amazing.

What is your background with handguns?  Have you done bullseye for a while or anything?

That's a common complaint with Aguila.

No, no bulls-eye at all in competition, just informally. I mostly shoot USPSA & 3 Gun matches. But oddly enough, I feel this type of bulls-eye shooting really helps me in shooting the centerfire calibers. It makes me focus & forces me to practice good trigger control so when I get into a match those things come naturally, IMO.

Yeah, I've heard that too. Which is why I didn't buy them in bulk when I made my last .22LR ammo purchase.
