Wll this is the reason that i am qualified with two full sized duty guns for work.

I did a complete field strip of my STI tactical 5.0 today because i have had some rust issues inside the beavertail safety from sweat and blood being allowed to stay in there for too long.

Anyhow, i have stripped this firearm apart before and put it back together with no issues. Today when i got it back together the hammer would not stay cocked unless i manually cocked it back fully and then wiggled the safety to the safe position. Then it will fire but not cock back again.

It feels like something is wrong in there when its all assembled but i can see anything.

The gun is in tip top shape. It had a professional trigger job by David Cupp, the production manager of STI and none of the internals look damaged or galled or bent up or anything.

It has a really nice short 3.5 pound trigger but i have been meaning to take it in to my gunsmith (a legend in building race guns) and have him rework the trigger to take out the TINY bit of barely detectable creep that it has.

I think now is a good of an excuse as ever to have him do it.

Take the gun apart and put it together correctly. Your sear spring is most likely incorrectly installed.

Dindingding!  Happened to me last week, had the gun at the shop and the smith actually put it in wrong.

Sear spring should look like this when properly installed.

im pretty sure thats not the problem. I looked at it a couple of times to be sure and replaced it a few times too.

Of course that probably is the problem cause nothing else is messed up. Still, this will give me an opportunity to have him install an infinity aluminum trigger which i have been wanting anyway.
