Ok I am fairly new to the 1911. I have shot them in the past but rarely. I got a new one and am working on putting it through its paces and discovered an issue today I need to clear up. Today I put rounds 99-242 through it in it's second outing. From round 190-242 I had 3 failures slide stop locked back early. It was not from the mag or anything else gun wise it was from my finger pushing it up The gun had gotten fairly hot so I was holding it a little different with my off hand, I am hoping that was all it was. Is there anything I can do differently to prevent this from happening other than wearing gloves?

Change your grip to a high thumbs grip and that problem should go away. Thumb on top of the saftey? That is how I was holding it. If I hold that way my off hand thumb sits right at the slide stop pin. If I hold under the saftey my off hand thumb sits below the slide stop pin just touching the bottom of it. But holding the later I could accisently activate the saftey? Looks like I need to do a lot more practicing |

New to me too. Never had a handgun heat up to the point I had to change grips. Rapid fire? Pretty rapid I went through 144 rounds in under 20 min. I did not really change grips I think I was holding my off hand thumb looser trying to keep it off the hot frame. I have taken my Glock out and put 400 rounds through it in about 30 min before and the frame was not that hot. Maby I just need to man up a bit and toughen up my thumb so it can take the heat |
