I think they may be done for 2010 from what I've heard at the gun shop...so take that for what it's worth. Got mine for $1490. Not a fantastic price but still worth it for what you get. First 1911 on which I will most likely change nothing.
Well, I lied I am considering doing the Ion bond thing to it & perhaps crown the muzzle flush, make a few other parts shiny.....but thats just because I have a problem

Yesterday, a user on another forum posted that he just received a Duty coated 2010 Valor. That was the first non-blem one that I've read about. Grizz just as a note , new Valors are duty "treated", not "coated". That's one of the new selling points. Older Valors had a cerakoated type finish called Duty Coat. New ones have a finish along the lines of melonite or ionbond |

Yes. When I initially posted the reply, I called it Duty Treat, which came from a DW rep that visits another
forum. I went to the DW website later, and noticed that they're calling it a "Duty" coat, so I changed the name in my post to match what's listed on their website. Don't know what to call it, but it's supposed to be a metal treatment.....not a coating. Dan Wesson really should put a least a little effort into their website. I'd be embarrassed if I were them. Probably saw same post Grizzly did on 1911 forums in the Dan Wesson section within the last few days. Fist I've seen of someone receiving a Duty Coat (that's what DW calls it) model. Did see a blem or two on Gun Broker prior to this. The individual hasn't posted pics yet which I'm looking forward to seeing. Here is what CZ-DW says:
"The Valor is a base stainless 1911 with our new "Duty" coat matte black coating. This coating is a ceramic base coating that has set the standard for all coating tests. No polymer based coating can compare." OK. Whatever marketing says. Not sure how I feel about a ceramic coating that adds over $300 to the MSRP. For those that haven't been tracking DW Valors, the changes for 2010 are: - Heinie Ledge Straight Eight night sights - DW manufactured steel components Street price for a 2010 SS Valor is about $100 higher than a 2009 Valor with Cerakote ($1350 vs $1450). Better parts and sights are worth $100 and IMHO, these are still a better deal than any of the alternatives. Add in $300 for the duty coat and it's no longer cut and dried. The finish is unproven and there needs to be a lot of field use before they can declare victory. Given that they are up against finishes like melonite and IonBond DLC, it better be pretty danged good stuff. And then there is the VBOB. More expensive and like the CBOB, very cool pistol that keeps calling my name. As black ones come out and demand for SS ones drop (hopefully), maybe I can get a good deal on a SS one and send it off to get treated with the new IonBond FDE color. |

The one person that claims to have a Valor with the new finish just posted that he's now overseas.
He didn't post any photos, but said it's similar to the Ionbond he's got on a couple other guns. Photos and shooting results in late September. I guess we'll need to wait for #2 to appear. Grizz |
