I have a new Colt series 80 government that was giving me some hammer bite. With my trusty laptop on hand as well as some tools I installed the following
Factory Colt series 70 short trigger
Factory Colt Commander Hammer
Factory Colt extended single sided thumb safety
Wilson Drop-in Beavertail
Everything fit pretty easily beside grinding a little from the tangs on the beavertail from checking it with the Sharpie trick.

I test fired about 200 rounds without a hiccup and all safety funtion test pass beside the slide slamming forward after slamming a mag inside wich i am not worried about. i did notice a little shiny metal in the beavertail, i think the hammer is touching it sllightly.

Should i be concerned on the mods i have made if everything checks out?
Should i have a Gunsmith go over everything?
Thank for input.

I can't say for certain, but I think you did good.  I've only ever taken my 1911s to the 'smiths to get cut for Novaks and then have the sights installed.  I'm a proud member of the Wiley E Coyote School Of Gunsmithing.

Your in good company. Felt good to do it for your self didn't it ? I'd imagine you hammer needs some work. They usualy do. Take it to your local smith and have your trigger pull chcked IF your unhappy with pull weight.

Yes it felt great! Thanks! What kind of work for my hammer are you refering to?
i do like the trigger pull it feels much like it was. This is a carry gun so i like it a little heavy.

If your happy with it, leave it be. I like to make sure there's an even engagement between sear and hammer hooks.

Without knowing what safety checks you've performed, I would recommend following the instructions on this page if you haven't already.

I would also drop the slide on an empty chamber several times to check for hammer follow.

It might not be a show stopper but it shouldn't do that and it is correctable.

Try not slamming the mag in so hard.  I have a permanent bone spur from this, so eventually it will be a self curing phenomena.....

Why did you go with the short trigger?  Short fingers?  Just curious....

No need to have a gunsmith check it, provided that it works correctly.

This will fuck up a nicely polished sear.  Only do this slide slamming test if this is your end goal. Slamming it barrel down on concrete is a good follow up for the test.

Installed a new single sided safety.  Did the fitting with needle files and it took me a few hours to do a 30 minute job.  However, like 1911smith said; it sure felt good and I like having it my way.

No, it won't, as long as you don't make a habit of it.  This is a common test to check for hammer follow.

believe it or not when i was 11 years old i had gotten a model toy of a series 70 colt with a short trigger. i have been playing with that yoy for 25 years so the short trigger feels real natural to me.
i have performed all the tests from the website they all pass

This is how I do it:

I like Picasa.com because it's fully integrated with Picasa freeware photo managing software which is really great stuff (and like I said.. free).

1. Set up a Picasa account
2. Upload your picture from your computer to your Picasa web album
3. Pull up the pic you want to post and select 'link to this photo' on the right side of the page
4. Pick a size (the one in this post 'large')
5. Check the 'image only (no link)' box.  One day I will refresh my HTML/Web fu and figure out specifically what's up with this.  Just know it works while the other options don't.
6. Copy the stuff in the 'Embed Image' box.
7.  Select the photo icon below in this Post Reply window.  It's the one with the mountain/sun thingy.
8. Paste the 'Embed Image' stuff overwriting the http:// that's already in the window since that's included in what you copied on Picasa.
9.  Check it with the Preview button below to see if things worked out OK.
10.  Sounds harder than it really is and it does take a little getting used but hang in there and you'll find that it works OK.
