So, are they still popular?  I remember about 5-6 years ago, they were "the thing" to have in your 1911.  Bombproof, expensive, relatively complicated.  Now, I don't really see many people using them in their builds.  Were they a passing fad?

Still poplular in the compitition world.  I think they are oversprung if you use both springs.  I tune the tension by using only one of the springs.  Either in the front for more tension, or in the rear for less tension.

I've never had one break or fail.  I keep spare springs on hand in case I loose on during disassembly.

They tend to last longer and require less tweaking than traditional extractors.   Competitors like to pop one in and pretty much forget about it.

I do not use in 45, but use the aftec in 9mm and 40 builds.
