I recently bought STI 140 MM .45 ACP Hi Cap mags for my Edge. When I went to fit check them, I pulled the slide back and it locked back but would not release on the empty mag using the slide lock release. I put a couple of rounds in and cycled the slide and it worked fine. Is this normal that the slide will not go forward on an empty mag? I've never had this happen with other mags. |
| im actually surprised that you own an expensive gun like that and dont know how mags function. no offense, but thats normal for any gun. If you depress the slide release really hard while retracting the slide all the way and releasing it, it will drop the slide, but the gun is designed to hold the slide open on an empty mag. |
Dude it just occurred to me that your other mags probably had Dawson precision aftermarket followers in them which allow the mag to hold one extra round and not hold open on the last shot. That's a feature desired mostly only by competition shooters and Europeans. If you want that with your new sti mags just order the Dawson followers for a couple of bucks and make sure that u keep mental track of rounds fired in a gunfight.

You can adjust the spring also... I do this all the time for people when I am tuning their mags. Remove the spring and count down from the top 3 coils on the front side, pinch the second and third could together lightly several times, re-assemble mags and test. What you are doing is changing the articulation of the follower, if the nose points up more then you will get a more solid lock after last round.
If you dont what it to lock back at all you dont even need an after-market follower, just pinch the front of coil 2-3, 3-4, 90% of the time it will level the follower enough that it does not engage the slide stop. |
