| I have heard a lot of people say that the Wilson mags are the best. I'm not opposed to paying that much for a mag but I wanted to know if there are any other high quality mags out there for less. I picked up a Pachmayr used from a buddy and its the only mag I have that will reliably shoot any type of ammo. I've never had any problems with my other mags as long as I'm shooting FMJ ball ammo. But hollow points are a problem for anything else but the Pach. I would prefer a S/S mag over blued. Any input would be great from the group. |

The Pachmayr's have a great rep for reliability, but I haven't seen on in ages. I'm of the opinion the Wilsons are over-rated.

I use CMC powermags +1 I've got a bunch and they've been stellar. If you search around, Brownells, Midway, or Numrich gun parts will have them on sale for $20 for the 8rd powermags. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile +1 I use them in my carry gun every day. |
| I've used Kimber Tac, Wilson, Tripp, CMC Power, ACT/Novak and cheap Shooting Star follower mags. They all have run in my 1911s (3.5", 4" and 5"). I once ran a single Wilson 47D mag 3000+ rounds with little cleaning; ran fine. But, I might be just the lucky one. My choice to carry is Wilsons with the flat metal basepad just because they offer the lowest profile slide-on basepad, and I like that the basepad is metal. For shooting, those ACT mags because they are cheap and they run for me. For non-steel frames use a skirted follower. |
