I have heard a lot of people say that the Wilson mags are the best. I'm not opposed to paying that much for a mag but I wanted to know if there are any other high quality mags out there for less. I picked up a Pachmayr used from a buddy and its the only mag I have that will reliably shoot any type of ammo. I've never had any problems with my other mags as long as I'm shooting FMJ ball ammo. But hollow points are a problem for anything else but the Pach. I would prefer a S/S mag over blued. Any input would be great from the group.

I use Wilson 47D's and I have a couple of GI mags with Tripp upgrades. All run hollowpoints just fine. When I get some more money i'm buying some complete Tripp mags

to me Wilson 47d need a magzine spring replacement to be great. the supplied springs get weak rather quick. Wolff sells some extra power magazine springs for Wilson magazines that work great andf last a lot longer than Wilson springs.

I run Wilson mags and one Ed Brown(because it is flush to the mag well. My Ed Brown doesnt like my 47D's but has no issues with the ETM mags. The Kimber does fine with either.  I prefer the ETM mags.

They're blued, but Novak/ACT mags work great for me.

Wilson's, Chip McCormick's, and Kimber's Kim-Pro mags are all top shelf from my experience.  All are stainless.

I also like that on the Chip McCormick mags, the base plates can be changed out for different sizes.

The Pachmayr's have a great rep for reliability, but I haven't seen on in ages. I'm of the opinion the Wilsons are over-rated.

Try this model from Check-Mate.

I've got a bunch and they've been stellar.

If you search around, Brownells, Midway, or Numrich gun parts will have them on sale for $20 for the 8rd powermags.

I have Tripp, Checkmate, Act, Chip McCormick, and 1960's GI. Excluding the GI, they all work in all my 1911's with HP or ball. If I could only have one brand, I would go with Tripp.

I use the CMC Powermags and they have functioned 100% with 230gr ball, 230gr Speer Gold Dots and reloaded 200gr SWCs.

I've used Kimber Tac, Wilson, Tripp, CMC Power, ACT/Novak and cheap Shooting Star follower mags. They all have run in my 1911s (3.5", 4" and 5"). I once ran a single Wilson 47D mag 3000+ rounds with little cleaning; ran fine. But, I might be just the lucky one. My choice to carry is Wilsons with the flat metal basepad just because they offer the lowest profile slide-on basepad, and I like that the basepad is metal. For shooting, those ACT mags because they are cheap and they run for me. For non-steel frames use a skirted follower.

I've had equally good luck with Wilson and Act mags.  I bought a few Pachmayer mags, and neither would feed anything, ball, HP or cast.

I uses CMC's and they have been flawless.
