Received batch #3 last night, but was home from work rather late, so I didn't get to feed test them.

I did notice, that both black ones are still hard to feed and not locking any of the tested slides back, and the stainless one sometimes, and even then just barely.

No pics were taken last night, will do today.

Not a good feeling so far, and being that this is T&E set #3 for me, I'm about ready to give up on C Products and their 1911 mags

Well I'll be damned. Just got another IM from Chad:

Sir, I am sorry, this might be hard to believe but you will be getting a
4th set today. The original magazines that were sent to you were
supposed to be stopped by UPS as they were shipped by someone who was
"subbing" for our shipper who was out sick and did not ship the new
version magazines. We then re-shipped, and those were the last version
you got. We were supposed to have overnighted you the latest version
with the new spring on Monday but they did not leave. They were shipped
next day air yesterday so you will see them today.

I guess I will be on my 4th T&E set soon.

I received two mags to test, one black one stainless.

Test weapon          Taurus PT1911   -  I know, I know, but  it is all I have at the moment for 1911's.  That being said, I have over 2000 rounds through this firearm with VERY few malfunctions of any kind with the factory mag, ACT mag, and Chip 10 rd power mag.

Initial impressions -

Appear very well made, no cosmetic issues.

Both mags drop freely.

Neither will lock back the slide when empty.  If I hold the magazine up, they both lock back every time.

loading -

Black mag -  follower seems slightly sticky for the first round or two, then seems to smooth out for the rest of the rounds.

Stainless -  much smoother, no issues loading.

I did not hand cycle the mags.   This has never proven a reliable test for me - I don't care if it will cycle by hand. I only care if it works when fired.

OK -  Day off with the boy so we decided to load up the tactical mini van and head to our gravel pit to test out the 2 mags Chad sent.  (and let the little man burn some .22
)

Mags from left to right

Stainless C Product mag  -  black C products mag  -  taurus mag  -  act mag  -  chip 10 rd power mag

Ammunition

I dug through my .45 stash looking for a variety, in case there was an issue with a particular style of ammo

I brought with me the following.

Blazer alum 230 gr ball  (100 rounds)

winchester 230 gr ball  (50 rounds)

speer gold dot 230 grn (50 rounds)

federal hydra-shok 230 grn  (50 rounds)    (old stash I have been dwindling over the years)

I was fairly certain ball would function ok through these mags.  The test for ME has always been hollow point rounds.

Gun was detail cleaned previously.  Copious amounts of lube applied prior to shooting today.

1st up   Winchester 230 grn ball

C prod back magazine.   Hard to seat with slide closed.  Had to slap the bottom of magazine, locked in fine.  8 rounds no issues.  Slide locked back when empty.

C prod stainless magazine.  exact same as above.

Note -

Could observe some of the black coating actually on the rounds inside the magazine.  Not clear in the picture, but it was visible to the eye.

I tested both mags again empty to see if they would lock the slide back.  Neither would unless I pushed up the magazine.

Both magazines locked the slide back EVERY time while test firing today.  I don't have an issue with this.  They functioned as intended when firing, not when empty.  I do not know if this will become an issue later.

No issues alternating magazines for the rest of the 50 rounds.

next up -   Blazer 230 gr alum case.

C prod black mag -   Couple magazines in, had round #6 hang and not go fully into battery, "tap" on mag and the slide locked forward.

C prod black mag -  round number 8 jammed.  Hard to tell from the pic, but the round is nearly vertical.  I believe this was due to the follower sticking. Tap, rack and the round actually fed and functioned.

Alternated between the stainless and the black mag for the rest of the rounds.  No issues.

Next up -  flying ashtrays.  Federal 230 grn hydra-shok

C prod black mag

Mag inserted with slide closed.  Racked slide -  round jammed in feed ramp.  Locked slide back, removed mag, seated rounds again, re-inserted and pulled slide and released.  fired all 8 no issue.

Exact same issue with the stainless magazine.

I have had this same issue with ALL of the magazine I have for this 1911.  First round will dive sometimes when shooting hollowpoints, only when inserting a loaded mag on a closed slide then racking.   If the slide is locked back, I can insert a magazine, pull the slide rearward and release, and it will function fine.

Not sure if this pic is the hyra-shoks or the gold dot, I think its the dot, either way, the malfunction is the same for both.

Fired the rest of the Hydra's inserting a loaded magazine with the slide locked back - no issues alternating between the stainless and the black magazine.

Lastly  Speer Gold Dot

C prod  Black magazine.  First round dive the first time.  Removed magazine, reseated bullets, re-inserted magazine and cycled slide.  fired all 8 rounds.

Stainless functioned fine.

Had one malfunction with the black mag and gold dots - 2nd round jammed on feed ramps.  Tap-rack cleared malfunction.  Stainless functioned fine.

Overall impression.

I like the stainless magazine quite well.  I am concerned over time that it may fail to lock the slide back when empty, but right now, it works every time.

The black magazine seems to be sticky at times.  As others have mentioned, I blame the coating as well.  Still I felt it functioned ok.

I will buy another couple stainless mags in the future.  I think the black mag will come to the front after a few hundred rounds.

Thank you Chad for letting me try these.

Also I apologize for not having more picture, but the 6 year old was taking up a fair amount of time during this process.

Just got back from the range. Sorry SGB, wasn't able to shake up any JHPs (and my stash is actually too low for comfort as it is).

I took all 3 pistols (the Loaded was already on me) and alternated pistols initially. The Loaded has a feedramp and barrel throat polished to a mirror, so I only tested both mags through it twice.

I only used the GI's because of the non-improved feed ramps and minimal "realiabiliy" upgrades like the Loaded.

Little over 150rds total through the mags (reloading after every 16rds). My fingers hurt

Springfield Loaded:

The Black Mag failed to lock the slide back both times on the Loaded.

The Stainless worked perfectly.

2003 Springfield GI:

Black mag would not lock the slide back at all. When held at the slide stop notch in the frame, the slide stop would ever so slightly creep upward, but never enough to catch the slide.

Stainless mag worked perfectly.

2009 Springfield GI:

Black mag worked perfectly

Stainless mag worked perfectly.

I thought it was interesting that the black mag choked in the Loaded. The slide stop works very easily and locks fully into the slide stop notch with CMC's, Mec-Gar, and Wilson mags.
Verdict:

I'll buy some of the Stainless mags for sure. The black still need some work.

Here's the mags after I got home. Pistol rash got a little worse from insertions into the magwell, but it's not out of line. The black actually seems to have reached the point of diminishing wear. There isn't much more rubbed off than when I was fiddling with them yesterday.

OK, my 4th set of T&E mags.

Preliminary testing, based on previous mags tested, consisted of inserting them in to my TRP Operator and Kimber and seeing if the slidestops would engage the slides.

Again, stainless mag locks the slide back about half the time, slidestop just barely comes up enough to catch the slide.

The black mags both complete fail to lock back the slides.

The followers in the black ones really like to bind up if pushed down by hand in any other place than about 1/3 of the way aft of the front of the follower. Push on the back, and it's stuck. Push on the front, and it's stuck.

One thing I also noticed that some of the black mags were binding up in my Kimber, and some weren't. I noticed this with Batch #2k, #3 and #4.

All mags dropped free from my Springfield TRP Operator.

I'm going to post these pictures here, but they are just about the same as #2 and #3 sets.

Followers in black mags shown in "stuck" position. This can be corrected by jamming a pen in the mag, again about 1/3 of the way back from the nose of the follower.

Again, failure to push the slidestops up. I've seen this with all of my guns.

My conclusion so far:

-The followers like to bind up in the black mags. A lot.

-Some of the black mags were binding up a bit in my Kimber, I'll have to check the width of the mags with a caliper.

-None of the black mags lock the slides back in ANY of my guns, the stainless will, but not consistently.

-Mags when full are extremely hard to seat into the gun, it really takes a very hard tap from the bottom. I can't push them in by hand like I can with my other mags.

After having tested 4 sets of mags, after "improvements" and a shipping error, I'm not impressed by any of them.

I have yet to take them to the range, but I don't think they will redeem themselves there. Unless they magically start locking my slides back.

Once I make it to the range, which I hope will be this weekend, I'll
post my range-report.

Chad, I appreciate you sending me 4 sets of mags to test and (re-)evaluate, but please, no more. I haven't seen any improvements and I feel like we're wasting shipping money.

If you want to send me a shipping label, I'll box them up and send them back your way.

Ok I got my mags today.  I can not post pics at this time as my camera is in Florida with my wife.

I did a very limited test today and will do much more extensive testing later on.

I unwrapped the mags and noticed the same scratches that everyone else is complaining about.  The scratches are really a nonissue for me, but it seems like a simple fix, I would think C Products will address this.  I took a pencil and shoved  the follower down in the Stainless mag and it functioned perfectly.  I inserted the stainless mag into a 1994 era Auto Ordnace GI Style 1911. It inserted and dropped free as it should.  I hand cycled the slide and it locked the slide back every time.  I loaded 8 rounds of 230 grn cast rounds and inserted the mag.  It inserted correctly with my normal mag seating procedure, which is a firm slap of the mag.  I remembered someone saying these mags are hard to simply push in, so I tested this and had a fair amount of resistance with the push in method.  I placed one round in the stainless mag and fired it off of my back porch, the slide locked back on its own.

I repeated everything above with the stainless mag in my Smith and Wesson 1911PD with exact mirror results.

Next I took out the black mag and shoved the follower down with a pencil.  The follower stuck solidly about half way down.  I set the mag down to go get a small screw driver to dissasemble the mag and the follower released.  It hit the feed lips hard enough that it shoved partly out of the mag.  The base of the front of the follower was clearly visable sticking out of the mag above the feed lips.  I disassembled the mag and reinserted the follower and spring.  The base plate is a different set up from a standard mag its more like the base on a glock mag than a GI 1911 mag.  Looking at the base from the outside it appears like a plastic bump pad attached to a base plate.  After reasembling the mag I tested it with the pencil some more.  I discovered if you  push at the back of the follower it will slide up and down with ease.  Pushing towards the front of the follower causes it to get stuck at about the mid point.

Next I inserted the black mag into both the Auto Ordnance and the S&W1911PD.  It inserted easily, locked into place and was released correctly and easily from both pistols. Next i loaded 8 rounds of handloads with the hornady XTP hollow point bullet.  I hand cycled all the rounds through and it locked back the slide on the S&W1911 PD, but not on the Auto Ordnance.  Next I loaded 1 round of 230 grn Hard Cast Ball into the mag and fired one round off of my back porch.  I did this in both guns and both times the slide locked to the rear.

I loaded up 8 rounds of the 230 grn hard cast into the black mag, using what I had learned earlier. I made sure to keep the pressure on each round to the rear as I inserted them into the mag.  Next I loaded 8 rounds of the 230 grn Hornady XTP handloads into the stainless mag.  I fired the full 8 rounds through the Smith and Wesson 1911 PD with the black mag 230 grn hard cast combo with no malfunctions and the slide fully locked to the rear on empty.   Then I inserted the stainless mag 230 grn XTP Hollow Point combo into the S&W 1911 PD and fired all 8 rounds without malfunction and the slide locked to the rear on empty.

After this I ran out of time and had to go to work.

AT this point I dont care much for the black mag.  I do really like the Stainless Mag it feels buttery smooth and loads easily. My only reservation was the light weight of the magazine.  I feared it may dent or deform more easily than some other mags.  I have squeezed it very hard and it did not flex anymore than an ACT mag, CM mag or 40s era GI issue mag.

Pictures and many more rounds cycled to come.
'
Update 6/17
Ok I fired 48  more rounds through boths sets of mags with out issue through the S&W1911 PD all fed properly and locked the slide back on empty.  I fired 24 rounds through the black mag and 24 rounds through the stainless mag.  The 49 th round was a squib and it blocked my barrel.

Switching to the Auto Ordnance 1911 I had nothing but problems.  The black mag failed to feed second round and fell completely out of the gun on the third shot. It locked the slide back on empty everytime but I had multiple failures to feed, multiple failures to eject and the mag fell out of the gun at least once during every series of 8 rounds fired.  The Silver mag worked much better in the AO 1911 but I still had one failure to feed. The Stainless mag never fell out of the gun and like the black mag locked the slide back on empty every time I fired around 48 rounds through both mags.  I am not 100% convinced that the failures to feed and extract that the black mag suffered were the mags fault (or the one round that FFed from the stainless)  I did end the day up with 16 rounds fired through some CM mags with 0 issues though.  So far both mags are good to go in the S&W  and the AO deffinately does not like the black mag uncertain about the sliver.

I would like to end this by syaing both the Black and the Stainless mag were 100% in my Smith and Wesson 1911PD so far they are looking very promising for this pistol.

Just wanted to repeat what I said in my review.  Neither of my mags would lock the slide back when cycling with an empty mag.  During 200 rounds of firing, both the black and stainless mag locked the slide when empty, every time.

Got my mags today, one stainless and one black.  Thanks for the opportunity Chad!  All testings will be done with my only 1911 which is a DW Vbob.  I hope to make it to the range this weekend and will post up a more detailed response at that time.

First impressions were just ok.  Cosmetically they look sound, they did have the scratches which is a non issue for me.  I do like the numbered indicators on the side, nice feature.  The mags do load up fairly easily though the 8th round feels like it binds up slightly more in each mag and you really have to push it.  They take a little more force than my Checkmates to slide into the magwell when the slide is closed.  With 7 rounds they went it easier.  The problems started when I started trying to hand cycle them though.  Every 1-2 rounds I would get some type of FTF(eed)/FTE.  I'm hoping when firing it I won't have as much trouble but I'm honestly not expecting this to go very good, hope I'm wrong.  I was using American Eagle FMJ 230gr.  My gun is still relatively new with only ~300 rds through it but I've had zero issues with the Checkmates I've been using thus far.  I will report back with more info asap guys.

Thanks again Chad!

Me either. From the sound of things it is no loss.
What is particularly annoying is I have actually TRIED to buy some and failed. Then had them offered for free and failed. I think I will cut my losses and order more 47D's.

Thanks anyway.

I did same thing with mine and honestly the stainless version is "money" I'm still having problems with the coated black magazine with sticking.

Haven't gotten to the range yet, but I did some minor testing over the past couple of days.

Kimber Custom 2:Both mags locked the slide on empty - most of the time.  A few exceptions were encountered.
Homebrew 1911:Both mags locked back the slide, but it seems to be a toss-up whether they'll lock it back fully or barely.  About half the time the slide will catch the slide lock just on the very top corner, other times it will engage nearly completely.
RIA GI:Neither mag would lock the slide back.

All 3 1911s lock back on Metalform and Wilson mags.  It's funny, the no-name 7rd mag that came with my Sarco parts kit more fully engages the slidelock in the homebrew 1911 (and more often too)  than either of 8rd CProducts mags, and also engages the lock in the RIA GI.

The stainless mag looks and takes ammunition great.  The scratches others have reported are there, but they're barely noticeable and I'm rough on my mags anyway, so I really don't care.  It loads perfectly, smoothly all the way down to the bottom.

The finish on the black mag leaves something to be desired.  The coating is kind of...rough isn't the word...but it's not smooth like the stainless mag.  The coloring is blotchy in places and there are spiderweb-ish markings in the finish that I can't believe come from seating.  The loading is much tougher, and seems to stick around rounds 2-5.  Also, the follower leaves marks on everything it touches.  Turned my fingers black.

I'll have to see how they shoot before I can make a judgment call.  The stainless mag looks and feels high quality.  Looks like a CMC or a Wilson mag.  The black magazine looks like a Metalform that got a little worn.  I'm suspicious of it, but I don't know if that's my impression or because of others' comments.  I do want to and will give both a fair shake though.

Finally got a chance to make it to the range this afternoon for a quick session.  My worries were put to ease from the issues I had with hand cycling rounds as I was very happy and impressed with the way the mags ran in my DW Vbob.  I was also testing some new Chip McCormick power mags.  I shot 200 rounds of Winchester white box and rotated mags between the stainless CProducts, black CProducts, and 3 CM mags I had.

The two CProducts magazines are pictured at the far right.

I fired 96 rounds between the two CProducts mags (48 from each).  I experienced only one malfunction, which was a FTF that occured on the 8th round of my 1st magazine using the stainless one.  The black magazine functioned perfect the entire time.

The magazines drop free just fine and locked the slide back everytime when empty.  When compared to to the Chip McCormick mags they do not feel as smooth when loading or inserting but overall still very nice.  My only gripe is that when loading the first few rounds the follower would always want to hang up slightly; also the 8th round is harder to insert compared to the CM mags.  Towards the end of my session they did seem to smooth up slightly but I will know more once I get several more rounds through them.

(Both mags standing up are the CProducts, the flash washed out the black one and made it look stainless)

I am attending a carbine class this weekend and will be taking along the CProducts mags to rotate into use for the few hundred rounds we will be firing through our pistols.  I had my doubts about these mags upon hand cycling them at home but I have to say that I was very pleased with the way they ran when in use.  Overall the mags look great cosmetically and are well built.  For the money, these are a solid choice and based upon my little time spent with them I would recommend them.  Obviously my testing wasn't very abusive or rough but I definitely like what I've saw so far and time will tell how they hold up.

Took the 2  CProducts mags (black and stainless) out to the range with a Kimber Custom 2 and my homebrew 1911, along with a Wilson 47D and 2 Metalforms.  Also along for the ride was a Sarco 7rd mag provided with my builder's kit.  It lacks any identifying marks, other than the caliber.  Ammunition was Wolf, the vast majority of what I feed my 1911s.  The 47D functions fine in both guns, feeding without issue and locking the slide back with boring consistency, as do the .  Both guns function 100%.

Initially I was impressed with the stainless mag.  It worked fine for a few dozen rounds.  Slipped into the magwell smoothly, rounds chambered perfectly, slide locked back all the time.  The black magazine had a few problems.  It would always try and feed the last round into the chamber vertically, the slide snapping closed on the round standing up on the follower, bullet pointed skyward.

Early in the session my homebrew was set aside as the CAA lightrail decided to dismount the gun.  All further rounds were fired through the Kimber Custom 2.

As the session wore on, the stainless mag developed more and more problems.  It would feed the round directly into the bottom of the ramp without angling it up.  It would push another round up under the extracting round, stopping the movement of the slide.  These problems never occurred with the Wilson 47D, the Metalforms, or the no-name Sarco mag.

Thanks to my friend "Z" and his iPhone, I have an accurate record of the last 8 rounds through the Kimber from each magazine.

Stainless mag:
First round - didn't close slide all the way (this was when I released the slide on a full mag by hand, not using the slidelock)
Second round - Round jammed straight into the bottom of the ramp.
Third round - Attempting to feed during extraction, both rounds stuck.
Fourth round - Round jammed straight into the bottom of the ramp, and my slide locked back at disassembly notch
Fifth round- Attempting to feed during extraction, both rounds stuck.
Sixth round - Slide closed out of battery, tapped, racked, bang.
Seventh round - Round jammed straight into the bottom of the ramp, and my slide locked back at disassembly notch.
Eighth round - Slide closed out of battery, tapped, racked, bang.

Black mag:
First round - Slide closed out of battery, tapped, racked, bang.
Rounds 2, 3, 4 - fired fine
Fifth round - Slide closed out of battery, tapped, racked, bang.
Rounds 6, 7, 8 - fired fine
Locked back on last round

All out of battery rounds showed at least half the round in the ejection port.

Wilson 47D
Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 fired fine
Round 4 closed just a hair out of battery, maybe a millimeter.

I guess, maybe, I can forgive the out of battery rounds since the Wilson did do slightly the same thing, indicating it may be the gun.  I'll clean the guns and give these mags a few dozen more rounds.  I had hoped these mags (which look like a million bucks despite being only fifteen) would perform like the CProducts AR mags I have (ie perfectly) and I could switch away from my Metalforms to something that looks like it didn't come from the Korean War.  I guess I'll stick with my Metalforms for flush or close-to-flush fitting mags.

I just got back from my carbine class and I am flat wore out so I'll keep this short.  The magazines worked without a single hiccup.  They were continually dropped from gun to ground, kicked around, stepped on, covered in dirt/dust, whatever and they ran side by side with my other mags (Chip Mccormick) both days.  These things work!

Wow, now I am very confused. So far my feeling is that we still have a lot of work to do, especially with the black. We feel that the coating is creating a lot of friction issues, we have changed it several times from an isonite to a Black Oxide and now we have a new coating that we are going to try. What is confusing me is the last two posts, one gentleman's magazines are not working, the other guys work great.

I know there was an issue with magazines not locking the bolt back, and we have altered the springs to clear that up. To make a long story short, instead of cutting the last link off the spring we were supposed to bend the spring to sit flush on the retainer plate. By cutting it off it weakened the springs enough to not lock the bolt back.

I look forward to any reviews still yet to be posted, I sent out 25-30 magazines to be tested so there are still some to come.

To everyone that has posted so far, I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me with this.

I think I'm going to take my Dremel tool, flex extension and wire brush and mechanically remove the coating on the inside of my magazine and see if it helps.  It sure can't hurt.

Chad, I appreciate the opportunity to test your mags out and Thank you for sending them to me.

I'm by no means a pro of any sort and know squat about producing magazines, but I decided to do a little investigating.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think this picture points to, at the very least, part of the reason people are experiencing failed slide locking.

L->R CProducts, Cproducts, CMC PowerMag, CMC PowerMag + (1st model), CMC PowerMag +(new model), Wilson 47 (can't remember what letter, but it's 8rds).

It's no wonder CProducts mags are having issues. Case in point: I put the CMC PowerMag spring in the CProducts black mag and it locked the slide back on all 3 1911's I have on hand. It wouldn't do that before.

Chad, if I were you, I'd have the guys in R&D take a HARD look at the springs.

We have taken a long look at the spring already and have made changes, the springs shown in that photo were cut when they should have not been. Let me give you a little history on this with us:

When we first released the .45's they always locked the slide back, you can read from one of the gentleman's posts here he confirms this. The main problem with the originals was that it was very, very difficult to get the 8th round in, and when you did get it in it took quite the slap to get them to seat properly. So we changed the spring. We changed the pitch of the spring, and the final step needed is to bend the last coil down so it sits flush with the retainer plate. Well there was some confusion here as to what the changes were and we ended up cutting off the last coil, which made the spring too weak and would not lock the bolt back. This has been corrected already, and the magazines now lock the slide back every time. This is with the electro polish magazines, the black magazines have issues all onto themselves that need to be addressed, mainly the coating itself.

Maybe the bloack coating is more failure prone, but the springs that are in the mags you sent me are the reason why the black mag was failing.

I replaced your spring with a Chip McCormick PowerMag spring and the mag functioned like it's supposed to, black coating or not.  As it sits now, your springs seem to lack the tension to overcome the tightened clearances caused by the black coating. If you had a spring that was stronger, it could overcome the increased friction caused by the black coating and you'd be golden. These mags feed just fine for me, but the black mag wouldn't catch the slide reliably and the silver mag wasn't thrusting the slide stop all the way to the top of the slide stop notch. CMC's do.

Am I missing something here?  Have these been on the market or are we (the members) doing the product testing and then a final product will be released?

After reading about all of the revisions (and problems) just in this thread makes my head spin and not trust these magazines one iota, regardless of cost.  It seems like a very bad idea (in my opinion) for the magazines to be evaluated in this manner and not internally.  Really, how hard is it?  You just need a handful of different 1911s, several cases of ammo, magazines, and a weekend to determine if the magazines are reliable and suitable for the market.  I get the impression that was not performed internally.

The Magazines are available through Aim, 44 mags etc ..........

The question as to the quality and reliability of the magazines has been coming up fairly often here as they look good and are offered at a modest cost. We all want something better that cost less, however both the 1st batch and this batch of magazines that C products has sent out to various members for evaluation have proven to be problematic.

While I personally see this thread doing C products no good, it does give the membership something to base their purchasing decisions on.

Tripp Research, Wilson Combat and McCormick Powermags are still the recommended go to mags .......at least in my opinion.

Sir, we do a lot of testing here, I just wanted to get some outside opinions and evaluations. Is it hurting C Products reputation? To be honest I don't really care.  I am only interested in building a magazine that works flawless in every 1911 weapon on the market.  Our reputation in the AR world is top notch, and our reputation in the pistol world (deservedly so) has been awful so I don't think we can go anywhere but up. Its my goal that after all the feedback has come in and the changes made that people will see we have made the corrections and have a great magazine at a great price, which is what we have always tried to do here at C Products.

I am not sure what to make of that comment, I simply asked if anyone was interested in getting free samples and evaluating the magazines, and about 30 people jumped at the chance. I appreciate everyone who has helped with this, sir if you feel that I have taken advantage of people by asking then I don't quite know what to say. Maybe that's not what you meant by that statement but that's how it looks to me.

Im really glad you are doing this "in the open". I got a ton of those "contract" 7 round mags for 5 bucks a piece years ago at a gunshow. Theyre all about due to be tossed out now and Im looking to replace them with cheap mags. Ever think of doing a split follower 7 round steel floorplate on the cheap?

I wasn't clear as to whether these are currently available in the retail marketplace or not.  Now, if I was to order some right now from online vendors it seems like I will receive an older iteration that hasn't been tweaked, whether it be new coating, chopped springs, new follower design, etc., as it appears that "tweaking" is occurring on the fly as this thread proceeds.  We are all looking for cheaper alternatives that are reliable in comparison to existing designs, but I know that when I stuff a Tripp, CMC Power Mag, or WC magazine in any of my 1911s I will likely have satisfactory results.  It does not appear that may be the case with the blued magazines that are presented in this thread, based on "external" T&E.  However, it is good to know that "internal" testing was sufficient to allow for market release of the magazines.

Chad, I got a chance to look at the mags you sent me.comparing them to some older ones I have.                                   the ones with the white dots are the older ones.the older chrome worked well, but wouldn't hold the slide open, feeding was fine, the black one won't even allow me to pull the slide back without hitting it,and jamming.the new black one feeds good, but will not hold the slide.the chrome jammed loading right from the start.                                                                                     there seems to be  lot of residue from the welding                                                                                              it also had 3 dents on both sides the look like it was done with the tip of a flathead screwdriver                                                        I compared the spring length of your 4,a 5.99 one from cdnn,an act,and one of my wilsons, and you can see the big difference in them.even the cheap cdnn one has a longer spring.                                                        with the springs inserted you can why the slide won't stay back, there isn't enough pressure to push it up                 .the act,and the wilson have about an 1/8" to 3/16th more length on the mag body, your mags seem to be the same as a standard mil spec 7rnd lenght, which I think is also one of your problems.if you have a better spring to try out I would love to try it,but with it the way it is right now I can't endorse it at this time.  thanks again   mike

Howdy all, I have just found this thread and have been reading it with great interest.

Prior to finding and reading....I ordered five stainless 8 rounders from AIM.
I got them and noticed the scratches down the side of the mags...no big deal for me.
I did notice how difficult it is to load the 8th round on the mags.

I test fired them in two guns:
1) RIA 1911 Tactical
2) A home build on a Stainless Caspian frame and Colt Combat Elite slide.

The loaded mags will load in the magwell of the RIA with some pushing with the slide closed.
On the Caspian, it takes a good hard smack - something my wifey will not like doing.

On the RIA they will lock the slide back after the last round is fired, on the Caspian they will NOT - which I find to be a bummer.
So much using them with the Caspian in 3-gun.

I only put about 80 rounds through them, so not a whole lot, but I will continue to plink with them....we'll see what happens.
Not what I call scientific.

The later posts with mention of longer springs caught my attention as well - I wonder if a longer spring will allow slide lock....hmmmm.

These are just my personal observations, and I thought I would shre them with the hivemind.

I would have liked to have tried one of their 7rnd mags to see if they are any better.   squeezing 8 rnds in the mag with the short springs just don't work.you can get them to work if you leave 1 rnd out,and tweek the spring  some.,the second from the left is an older one that I had 6 rnds in for the last 3 months, and you can see how much the spring is compressed compared to the black one.if they add a little lenght to the mag body, and give it more room for a longer spring I think they'll have better luck with them.

Good job stating the obvious.  I have invested over 400.00 in wilson mags because they work.  They are also the most overpriced.
I'd love to see C-prod. do this right and give us another "go to" mag choice for less go to $$

You are not in GD, and the GD bs doesn't sit well in this forum. Please keep that in mind for the future.

Well I have had more range time with the T/E mags that I have. (the one stainless and one black finish) They do have a shorter/smaller spring than my wilsons as shown in the pics above.
The stainless is still working fine, no problems. (as stated in my prior review It was tested in my Springfield Loaded that is not mag sensitive) The slide still locks back every time.
The black mag seemed to have a few FTF pop up. (5 in the course of 100rds in this mag also in my Springfield) I proceded to use a swab with some polishing paste inside the mag to try to smooth out things a bit. (using the swab attached to a drill)
The polishing seems to have had a positive effect and over the course of another 100rds the black mag has seemed to work through the coating issues and perform really well. (as far as range duty)
I have passed off both mags to a member of a local gun forum so he can T&E further, and hopefully report further. (which I will copy here from my local forum)
500 rds put through the mags and I will be buying some stainless mags and I do view them as a great value. The black mags seem to work out OK and are serviceable but I see no reason to buy them with the stainless mag working so well out of the box.

Thanks Chad for the chance to T&E these mags and I hope my input helps.

Alright I finally made it to the range.  The pistol R.I.A. .45. The ammo 100 WWB, 50 lead ball reloads, 50 federal fmj. 16 hornady home defense 185gr. all ammo 230 gr.except hornady. Mags. 1 stainless 1 Black cproducts 8rd 45 mags.

1. My earlier post showed the black mag hard to load all 8 rds. I kept it loaded for the past few weeks and today was a breeze to fit all eight in.

2.Both mags need a little extra push to seat  the magazine, the black was alittle tougher then the stainless.

3. Both mags locked back the slide at the end of fireing the last round. the black still will not lock back by hand cycle. stainless will.

4. Both mags worked with no problems at all. all 216 rds. were fired in 1 session.

5. Both dropped free when empty.

I would like to thank Chad for the chance to try out his product It seems they could use a little more tweaking but would not stop me from buying them. They function and there not overpriced.
