I wanted the ability to add a flashlight to my 1911 (started life as an RIA GI frame) and I didn't want to drill the frame for a Dawson rail, so my only other option was a Command Arms 1911 rail. Got it, cranked it down real tight, shot at the range today and had no problems with it loosening as has been reported. Once I get everything sorted out, I'll locktite it down. Quite happy with it, except for one small problem: It cants down in the front. There's probably a fingernail's width between the top of the rail and the bottom of the slide.
I've filed the inside of the valley-shaped piece where it snugs up against the frame and had no luck tightening the fit. Does anybody out there have one of these rails? Have you had this problem? How did you correct it, or how do you recommend I correct it? Thanks in advance! Oh, and to whomever suggested Heinie Ledge sights when I asked about night sights I could theoretically rack off a table...I got them installed on my pistol and they are NICE. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to get them installed on (at least) my next 4 builds. |

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not so much concerned about taking finish off. It's already taking finish off where it touches the underside of the frame. Once I get the thing angled properly, I'm going to locktite it in place. My problem is not the gap, but the angle of the gap. It starts out perfectly flush fit with the frame at the back, and there's a millimeter or two at the front, which is enough to cause a sizable gap with the underside of the slide at the end of the rail. I'll try and get a picture later today or tomorrow. I've thought about putting it in a vice and banging on it with a hammer until I get it bent the way I want, but that seems like an option of last resort, especially on a $65 part. Any ideas? |

I've never handled one, so this might be a stupid question- can you put a shim in where it contacts the lower trigger guard, thus pushing the rail to a higher angle?
And more importantly, does it really matter? Is the beam pointing noticeably downward? I'm getting ready to put a rail on one of my guns, and had pretty much discounted the "no drill" models as being a bad idea. Looks like I may need to reconsider. |
