You won't make things any better with a drop-in barrel.

90% of the 1911's accuracy is due to a properly fit barrel.

Why the hell do you want to change the Kimber barrel???? One of the best things about Kimber is their accuracy. If you have an older Series I then you also have a stainless steel barrel. I have a Kart (Hard-fit) barrel installed in one of my guns. While it is a very good barrel, my Kimber still out shoots it.
Honestly, there really should be no good reason to change out your barrel. But, I f you absolutely, just have to do it, then get a Kart, Wilson or Ed Brown and have it fit/installed by a reliable Smith...

You remind me of me. Sometime's we just need to learn to leave well enough alone.

the stock barrel just has a black mark on top of the end of it. I got this gun in a trade & it has an Ed brown bushing that may be rubbing the barrel. should I get a new bushing to stop yhe rubbing?  I can't get the black mark off the barrel not sure what caused it b

You want the bushing to fit the barrel (and slide) as tightly as possible.   How does the gun shoot?

Measure the OD of the barrel. Than the ID of the bushing. You want about 1 or 2 thousands clearance. If it's too tight you can hone it. I tried several till I got the fit I wanted. You can also try to polish off the black mark. But if it mike's evenly and is not a raised bump I would not worry about it. Does the gun shoot accurately?

If you replace a barrel a fit barrel is the only way to go.  A drop in is the lazy cheap way to go and will show.  Pay the extra for a fit barrel, polish the black mark off or quit being so anal and shoot it as is

Please post pics of the location of the mark. Is the Ed Brown bushing blued or stainless? You should be able to remove the mark with a light once-over of steel wool or flitz. There is a good chance that the inside diameter of the bushing is a little too tight. Some light oil and fine grit sand paper could help. But, there should have been no reason to swap out the original bushing. I would strongly consider buying a new, stainless bushing from Kimber and then be done with it.

the busing is blued and i think its the reason for the marks.  the mark is on top of barrel.  if i get a new kimber bushing do i have to fit it to the barrel?  i'm not really comfortable having to fit the items together.

thanks.
ps~ i can't figure out how to put up pics on here, lol

Most bushings are drop in. If you want the best fit. You have 2 options. Option 1 is what I did. Break open your parts box. get your inside and outside mic's measure your barrel OD and find a bushing the desired size. Check fit in the slide and if it's gtg slap it together and take it to the range. Option 2 is measure your barrel OD slide ID and have one made to fit. I believe EGW will do this for you. Or you could just slap a Kimber bushing in there. Probably your best bet as you say your not comfortable with fitting.

Go to www.egw-guns.com and find the bushing page. Enter your specs and wait for it to show up in the mail.

Easy as that. They make some good stuff.
