I'm torn on whether or not I should put a Dawson rail on my Baer. The gun is carried and sits on the nightstand, but I don't know if I can conceal it with the light on. Either way, I carry a 6P LED in my pocket so I guess I don't have to have the light attached. I just feel more comfortable with a traditional thumbs forward grip to activate a mounted light rather than the Rogers-Surefire technique.

Does anyone here regret putting the Dawson rail on? Also, is this something pretty much any gunsmith can do? Or is this something I should send off to a 1911 smith?

I don't want to sell this gun and buy a 1911 with a rail since this was the first gun I bought when I turned 21. Buying a new gun also isn't really an option since I'm currently out of state for school and won't be back in my home state for a long time.

Anyways, here is what she looks like now.

This was the gun I saw over on 1911forum.com that made me consider doing it. I hope he doesn't mind me using his picture.

I called Dawson concerning parts I wanted to order and they said, "we're out of the colt pattern rails."

I asked if the springfield part would work and she said she didn't know.

I asked when they would be back in stock and she said they were discontinued.

I decided to order two springfield rails and two light mounts.

They only had one light mount.

Are you guys going to make more light mounts?

"No"

I decided not to order.

Long story short DON'T DO IT.  I wouldn't bastardize a baer for parts they may not support in the future, and you may not even be able to get the parts you want at this point.

Well that makes the decision a lot easier.

Thanks for the input.
