I started out trying a Novak front fiber optic with their rear, wide-notch (Geezer), white dot on my 1977 Combat Commander in 9mm.

Seemed like the front sight was just too big and dominated the sight picture.

So, I bought both a Dawson and a Caspian.

Installed the Dawson this afternoon when I got home from work.

Haven't shot it yet, but it seems much better in that there is daylight on each side of the front sight when lined up in the rear notch.  Front fiber optic element is smaller, too.

It might be a little high in the dovetail, but it appears to be perfect for the rear which is also a little high.

Dawson

Novak

Hope this helps someone.

Caspian L
Novak R (w/broken element)

The Caspian and Dawson are similar in frame and element sizes

From that last photo of the slide, it appears you had the Novak sight installed backwards.

Nope, Novak said long end toward the hammer.
Like this:

But it wouldn't make a hill of beans difference in visibility.

I like the smaller sight looks good.  The big fiber optic green dot would be target domination.

"target domination"

Exactly

That's the phrase I've been looking for.
