This is my very first 1911 and am pumped!  Springfield mil spec. I want to get new grips, I really do not like either pair that came with the gun. I was looking at VZ Operators II but dont know what color would look best on it. Wondering if you guys could help me out? Also what other little things should I look into to upgrade? Im going to the range in a few day to shoot it! Any words of advice for a 1911 newb?

My standard 1911 newb advice is this - Shoot the gun a bunch before you start adding stuff to it.  Nice weapon!  Enjoy it.

Congrats on the new 1911! I'm partial to nice wood stocks on 1911s.

Congrats on your 1911.  The Mil Spec is very good 1911 to start off.

Shoot it a bunch, then think about grips, magazines, and a good holster, those three things will help you accomplish most of what you want to do.

Once you are comfortable with the pistol and you have the three things above plus more ammo, then I'd look at a flat main spring housing assembly without the lawyer lock, maybe some skateboard tape on the front strap, and then a professionally done trigger job.

Shoot it but I will say after my mil spec the first thing I wanted to get the ball rolling was better sights.

Nice piece!

I agree with others, shoot it first before you fall into the trap of replacing everything. This lets you get what you need, and saves money for ammo!

Some of the common upgrades to Milspecs are, sights, triggers, thumb and grip safeties.

Thanks for the advice guys! I should be going to the range in the next few days.
