Stainless has been out since fall of last year or so. That was the first run of them. Seems most have been bought up, but there is a few around yet. Next run is scedualed for May/June of this year. A matte blued version will also be available this time. Price for one has been around a grand. Colt Rail Gun is stamped on the side. Good reviews by most with them so far. I went in the other day looking to get one, but I'm holding off for the blued version this summer. Buying a combat commander to tide me over...

Its not actually blued, its one of the spray and bake over stainless.

It was an assumption on my part because of lack of info besides picture. I could very well have been mistaken. Where does your knowledge come from?

If that's the case, I'll just stick to wanting a MC Op. I don't have a want or need for a Stainless pistol.

If you're going to paint over it anyway, who cares?   I'd rather have stainless underneath if I had my druthers.

I don't want to have to worry about galling, however small those chances might be with the newer alloys out there nowadays.

I prefer carbon steel with a simple parked finish or practically impermeable melonite.

Tomato, tomotto. It's no different than saying "we sprayed some crap on here so you guys can have a black gun so we don't have to do anything really different."

Isn't carbon steel also harder than stainless? Would that affect the long term maintenance when it comes to a new barrel/bushing?

I'll still buy it, but it is a bit of a let down it's still Stainless underneath

I'd like to think that my thread is directly responsible for Colt releasing the Rail Gun in blued steel.

And also renaming it "Totally Awesome Blaster".

I think I'd be a lot more interested in one if it didn't come with the S80 system installed.

Yes, I know, properly set up, the likelihood of it failing and not allowing the pistol to be fired is infinitesimally tiny. I still don't see the need for yet another safety device on a pistol that has one passive and one active external safety, firing pin spring, half-cock notch, etc.

Series 80 parts can be removed pretty easily. I wouldn't let that stop you.

I'm in total agreement on that Beltfed!  I was excited to see Colt come out with a railed model until I saw that.  I wouldn"t call the rollmark a deal breaker YET, but I haven"t been able to get over it yet either.  I was also contemplating, when I'm ready to make a purchase, to just call the Custom Shop and see if they could do a "custom" with the standard Colt Government Model on there instead of Colt Rail Gun.  I guess we'll see.

I mean, really. Do they need to tell us what we're holding in our hands?

Why not call it "Colt Firearms Pistol That Fires .45 ACP Cartridges, and Also Has A Light Rail Installed".
