Lately I've noticed a lot of threads inquiring about various 1911s manufactured in the Philippines. Hopefully this overview can clear things up a bit. At this point I'll just cover brands and manufacturers, when I have more time I may add specific models.
At this time there are three manufacturers of 1911s in the Philippines that are exporting pistols to the United States. They typically aren't marketed under the manufacturer's actual name. Here's how it breaks down, by manufacturer. Armscor: Rock Island Armory High Standard* Citadel STI Spartan** Charles Daly*** Armscor†Shooters Arms Manufacturing: SAM (Century International Arms) Iver Johnson IAI M5000* Metro Arms Firestorm* American Classic Armscor Notes: *Only High Standard 1911s marked "APINTL-PAHRUMP NV PHILIPPINES" are manufactured by Armscor. **The Spartan utilizes some US made internals supplied by STI, and are built on a special line at the Armscor facility. ***The Charles Daly 1911 has been discontinued, KBI/Charles Daly no longer in business. Citadels are pretty much the same pistols, imported by Legacy Sports. †At one time Armscor pistols were sold marked "Armscor" with no additional branding. Shooters Arms Notes: *Later IAI M5000 were built by SAM. Metro Arms Notes: *The Metro Firestorm should not be confused with the Spanish built 1911 clones sold under the same name. |

Interesting. Being Filipino we are a ethnicity that loves firearms. At least in my family that is the way it is. Its almost ironic that the .45ACp firearm is produced there, aren't we the ones that the .45ACp was created for? ![]() True, that. I guess you folks figure if a handgun/round is big enough to put YOU down, it must be good Keep making them, we'll keep buying 'em. LOVE my Rock, and my Citadel. |

Quoted: RI's are sold out of Nevada, and they have good CS rep over on m1911.org.Re: Rock Island How is the warranty and service on the RI? I heard a few months ago RI's are distributed out of Houston, but I have not confirmed that. True or false? Where would I send an RI for warranty repair? Thanks http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=17 |
| I bought a Citadel 1911 officers and it is great. This is my first 1911 and I will definitely get more. It shoots like a dream 4 inch group at 50 feet first time out with it. So I am very confident in carrying it, if I have to pull it out I should kill whatever is coming at me. I highly recommend the Citadel 1911's for anyone looking for an entry level gun. |

Where would I send an RI for warranty repair? Thanks Service for the Rock Island Guns is handled by Armcor Precision, Inc of Nevada. They can be reached at 775-537-1444. Most reports I've heard/read about Armscor's service have been very positive, but I've never dealt with them myself. Only Houston connection I'm aware of regarding any Armscor 1911s are the Philippines made High Standard pistols, High Standard being based out of Houston. |

I have one of the "Ravens," manufactured by S.A.M.
It's like a "Para-Ordinance," double column with short barrel. I have only ran a full box of 230 hard ball through it with no problems. It must be one of their first runs as serial number is CAI R00XX. I have fully disassembled it to smooth and lighten function and polish sides of hammer, trigger, exposed barrel area and muzzle. Only problem is that with the extended mag well / flat mainspring housing is a lousy fit with sharp edges. Don't know if I can dehorn it enough to help. Do any of you know if a Para-Ordinance housing will fit? While the sights are pretty good, I would really like to put some nice fixed night sights on it and keep it for my bedside gun. The clip from the factory was made by Mecgar and works great. All in all it's a pretty neat handy 45! |

Quoted: rias customer service is to notch and the in house gunsmith arnel is also top of the line!!! Their (RIA) customer service is absolutely outstanding and Arnel goes above and beyond. I have an RIA 1911A1 in .38 Super. It had a "feature" where it ejected magazines on firing. They fixed it rapidly and Arnel did some other things he didn't have to do (polish the feed ramp, etc). |

Metro Arms Notes: *The Metro Firestorm should not be confused with the Spanish built 1911 clones sold under the same name.[/quote] Great info, I'll just add, the spanish made Firestorm is not actually a clone. The magazines are interchangeable and it has been very reliable. A lot of "mil spec" parts wont fit. ETA: I have a Armscorp 1911a1 frame in the safe I bought for a build and it looks nice. |
