| i'm looking to buy a new S/A b/c mine was stolen, and i have seen alot about changing the ILS, so i was curious why one would want to change this out or what the benifit would be for doing so. all responses are appreciated, thanks! |
| I sitll have it on my TRP because I just do not want to modify it. But I did take it off my Loaded when I rebuilt it. Some just do not like locks on their pistols and also SA puts it on there because they have no firing pin safety like series 80 Colts and Swartz safety on the Kimber. |

They put a 28lb mainspring in there. Increases trigger pull.
I swapped that out for a 23lb and changed the mainspring cap (and added the retaining pin) and now the ILS doesn't work. I'm happy. I still have one more pistol to do it on, and another is getting a different MSH altogether because I want a flat one. Oh, and I don't like lawyer locks on my guns. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| I have a Loaded Target. Personal preferences vary, but I don't see any issues with it. Appearance wise there are just two bearly noticeable holes in the MSH. Unless you are looking for the holes, you won't notice the needle size holes. Unless ithe ILS somehow activates itself, I don't see a reason to remove it. |
| well, i'm looking at buying a Loaded in Black Stainless and i don't know if i want to change it or not. the only reason that i could think that i might want to change it out is, that my old one had the hump back style MSH and i liked the way it fit in my hand. not sure if i'm gonna like the flat one. just wasn't sure if there was some other reason for changing this, like some kinda mechanical issue or what? |
| My Loaded is a black stainless model. If I were to change it out (in your case for an arched MSH) I'd probably be annoyed if the new MSH color or coating didn't match the rest of the pistol. Just a cosmetic thing, but then so is the ILS if it is never used. There is no mechanical disadvantage to leaving the ILS, but if you're changing the MSH it's not something you'd want to "install" in the new one. This is all minor stuff so personal preference wins out. |

I like it a lot, now. I haven't shot it since I got it back from SA where they replaced the frame with a Trophy Match frame due to issues with the frame machining, fit and coating. They did an excellent job on it. The dust cover was machined off center on the original frame, the rear of the slide hung over the frame by maybe 1/8", the coating on the frame was poor, and there was spalling on the frame near the right thumb safety. The customer service was excellent and timely. It was 2 weeks from when I got the call from them that they received and inspected to when I had the pistol in my hands. I'll probably upgrade the bushing and do a trigger job on it. Otherwise it is now an acceptable pistol with an MSRP over $1000. I got my loaded target black SS with night sights for $1015+shipping and FFL fee. I found some afterward for $940-$960. I couldn't find any Loaded black SS Combats instock, but I didn't mind paying more for the adjustable night sights on mine. The local shop wanted $1050 tonplace an order (with a "who knows" lead time) for the PX9152LP I have. I would have paid tax on it too, so I just ordered online and still came out ahead with shipping a fee added. If I had not gotten the new frame and the smith hours to make the pistol look and fee like it does now, I would have just sold it at a loss and bought a custom 1911. My advice: buy a Black SS Combat and save a $200-$300. You may never need the adjustable night sights. I also recommend inspecting the pistol if possible, even a new one. If not, make sure you buy from a reputable online shop or out of town store who can help you get the factory's attention in case the pistol is not what you expected. |

sounds resonable enough for me. as far as the Blk Stnlss goes i don't think the slide stop, beavertail, or the thumb safety are the black stainless. i think they are black or park'd...i think! They don't appear to be stainless. I'll have to check, but I'm not hopeful that they are stainless. |

| does anyone know exactly what color the thumb safety, slide stop, external parts...are on this thing. i just noticed i would have to put an extended thumb safety on it and if i were to decide to change the MSH, what color would you go back with. i haven't seen any "black" external parts. |
Springfield 1911s are series 70 style pistols which is the way John Moses wanted them, the lock doesn't fit that criteria. I don't know, I didn't really have a good reason!
