Thinking of having my Colt Commander redone with new sights.  Anyone mailed just the slide in?  Curious if the sights were on w/o being sighted in.

I had my Colt Night Officer's ugly old P-T sights removed, and replaced by Novak's, with their own http://www.novaksights.com/extreme_duty_adjustable_sight.htm. Since I was in NY, it was a better choice to mail in the slide than to have to go through the FFL's and other paperwork for the complete pistol.

I had them mill off the old silver soldered front sight, cut the slide for their sights, and refinish the slide. I'm pleased. Its windage was dead on out of the box, and I had the ability to adjust for elevation.

I did exactly this several years ago with both a full size and a commander.  They came back in a week or so and the sights were perfect.

I mailed in the slide on my Sig220 about 3 years ago when I decided to go with night sighs. Told them windage was fine but it shot about 2 inches low with the factory sights. When it came back I did have to drift the rear sight a little but elevation was perfect. IMO it was a great deal.

I have sent three slides to them over the years...............had the low mount sights installed........the work is flawless..........one was perfect.....dead on and windage was correct........the other two shot low...........filed the front sight down........and reblued........the other pistol.........I decided to go with an adjustable rear sight........

They have fast turnaround and I talked to a fellow named kevin and he was first class.......once...wayne Novak answered the phone and we chatted a bit...........

The best way is to send them the entire pistol...........as they even state with just the slide, it might be a crap shoot..............

Sent a 1911 slide in a few years ago and it came back with the sights dead on.

I sent off my Springfield slide (Black Stainless with the Novak cuts) last spring to Novak to have them install a 10-8 rear sight and a tritium-dot front sight.

Came back promptly, I was pretty happy about that. I wasn't so happy that the rear sight had been drifted clear over to the left side of the slide, causing the POI to be a few inches different than the POA at normal ranges (7-15 yds), but since I had the correct Allen wrench for the rear sight setscrew, and a padded punch, I solved that issue without difficulty.
The only other thing was that the night front sight they installed started out very, very dim, and was basically toast after less than 6 months. However, I called Novak back and they were very helpful getting that taken care of.

All in all, a generally positive experience.

And I do like the combo of the U notch and front sight with embedded dot.
