I almost hate to ask this question for fear it will invoke a war of alliances, but here goes.......
I own several Glocks (gen 1 through Gen 3), two SIGs (P220 & P229, both 15+ years old), and a Smith Model 39 I bought new in the late 70's. I have decided to buy a 1911 for a couple of reasons. First because I have fired a bunch of them over the years from various manufacturers and always liked the way they shoot. Second because, well, just because I want one. I have it narrowed down to two makes/models. The Kimber Tactical Custom HD II and the Springfield TRP. Which one (of those two) would you choose? |
| I've been reading about, lurking in forums like this one, and shooting every 1911 I could get my hands on for a few months. I was set on the TRP till I shot a Kimber Tactical this past weekend. I only wish I could spend a couple of hours on the range with one of each...... |
| I drink the Kimber-aide so I will go with the Tactical HD. I have clearly been out voted so it doesn't matter, but there you have it. You could pick up the Duty One for the same money as your two choices and have a gun that comes out of a shop that pays more attention to detail, but that isn't what you asked. |

I really appreciate the help. So the majority vote goes to TRP.
Having said that and having looked at STI (Duty One) and the Valor 1911's, I'm back at the proverbial drawing board. I can solve this one quick though, I have a friend who owns a Valor and my neighbor just bought a Duty One. Soooo, it's back to the range yet again........ I like the range |

Don't be ashamed, my gun safe looks a lot like yours. As much as I like my glock and sig, I don't think they are as much fun at the range as my 1911's. Never ashamed..... My gun safes (plural) you mean..... Did I mention I have severe black rifle and M1A addictions as well? Just what I need is another jones. I spend so much time on the range now my wife keeps threatening to forward my mail out there.

belliott - Sorry bro, I only buy guns.....never seem to sell 'em. Hence the multiple high grade gun safes.......
OK all, I spent Sat on the range with my friends who brought with them (collectively) a TRP, a Kimber Tactical, a Wesson Valor, and an STI Trojan. 25 rounds each .I was thoroughly impressed with all of them which left me frustrated. I have now fired everything on my short list and I want them all for various reasons. I'm going to go with the Kimber. It fit my hand best and my group size was nearly the same with all of them. I like the checkering and ambi safety, plus the Kimber Kote looks good too Thanks for all your help and input. |
