If I want to install Meprolight sights on my Kimber by myself am I asking for trouble?  I haven't ever installed sights on a 1911 before but I would like to get them done and I have a punch set that I think should do the trick.

The bad thing about using a punch set is that you can damage the finish on the sights. That said I have used a nylon tipped punch in the past. I also slipped a shell casing over the tip of a steel punch, the brass is soft enough that it does not mar the surface. Just use some Hoppe's after to dissolve the brass marks.

I have brass and nylon punches.  Will that suffice?  I want to make sure that I don't do damage to the night sights.  I  know that people recommend not to use a punch on tritium sights but I haven't heard anyone say that about Meprolight.

You could always shake it apart. They are glued in quite well and frankly if they fall apart from that then they are not very good. Just make sure that your dovetails are damn close so your not shaving metal on the way in. Also remember some dovetails are tapered.

Much appreciated.
