| I was pretty set on a Springfield loaded ss target. It's rightt in my price range. I heard from a friend that most all your 1911's won't last in that price range. I know these aren't hand fitted custom pistols but if they are properly maintained how long will this last. I mainly will be target shooting, maybe get into some competition a ways down the road. As of now I shoot about 250 to 300 rounds a weekend. Will this fall apart on me in a couple years? What might you all suggest in the $850 range. As much as I shoot will I be replacing this every couple years? I'd like to hear your experiences with your 1911's. How long they went before accuracy fell apart or a major repair was in order. |

With proper maintenance and the occasional replacement of parts, this gun will last longer than you. Springfield has a lifetime warranty to back their guns too, so your GTG.
EDIT, do you plan to shoot 300 rounds and week...1200 a month...24,000 a year? Or when you say 300 rounds a weekend...do you mean that once or twice a month? |
| I make it to the range every weekend. There are some times I might miss a Sat but not too often. I guess it was a little mis leading, I shoot my GP100 and I have a Wittness 40. I'm really gettin fired up about having a 1911 and will be shooting it primarily, at least 800 or so a month. |
| Springfield will last a lifetime. As tated, replace the springs. Before you buy it do a function check. Make sure the trigger is clean breaking with a medium pull. The last few SA;s I looked at had between 7 and 8.5lb. pull. The trigger was actually rubbing material off at the frame. |
| The Loaded SS Target should have a NM serial number prefix, which means it was assembled in the US and should have better fit and finish than the normal Loaded models. If this will be a target piece you might want to look at STI as well, for $1000 you could pick up their Trojan 5.0, good gun, good price. The Loaded SS Target would be great too...given the choice I'd have the Springer but others might recommend the STI, either way you're good. |

Good to go just do a few checks on the pistol before you buy
1 (I do this with all pistol new or used) safety check engage safety pull trigger, disengage do not depress grip safety pull trigger make sure hammer does not fall. 2 Trigger pull make sure it breaks clean and it not extremely heavy. 5-6 lb is acceptable and can be tuned 4-5 is where you want to be (if it is gritty or sloppy pass). 3 Drop mag and take index finger and middle finger place on top of barrel chamber and push straight down it should not move if it does very very little if any. 4 Check slide to frame fit up and down and left to right some may be tight but most likely you are going to get snug with a loaded. 5 Check the barrel and bushing fit make sure that their is not a lot of play that it is atleast snug but tight is better. 6 Function check dry fire ride slide forward and back make sure no gritty feeling. 7 Look at the feed ramp for any abnormalities 8 Last look at the basics like the sights that they are cut right, the ejection port is cut properly, and other aesthetics are all correct. If you can get all that you will have a good pistol that should serve you well. Like said before the pistol is mechanical you will have breakage like any pistol but the overall pistol should last you a long long time. SA = lifetime warranty. |
| Thanks much for the info Edge, I did some of those things at 1 store that had 1 in stock. I was planning on buying this on line to save a c note. Seems like most the stores I go to have a display and then order you one. I don't think they have more than 1 that I can go through, would be nice. |

Take care of her and she will take care of you. I have 12,000 rounds through mine in 2 years. Many of the people I shoot with have 5X that through theirs. Proper maintence and inspection and you will enjoy that pistol for years to come. |
