Hi,

I have a Dan Wesson Bobtail on the way and i'd like to hear your opinions on the MSH.  The pistol comes standard with a smooth MSH/bobtail.  Should I go ahead and order a checkered one?  Are the snakeskin/chainlink patterns any better?

Also, does Dan Wesson use Ed Brown MSH's?  I'd like to keep the same brand for a better fit.  It seems like i've seen pictures of people switching their MSH and afterwards the fit didn't look too flush.

Thanks

The pattern is really going to come down to what you like because you can have one guy that like 20lpi and another who like 25lpi.  I like the chain link I have one on my Grand Raptor and one on a Springfield of mine.  On my Kimber Stainless Target I have a 20lpi and my TRP I have the stock one in it.

I have never had a problem with Ed Brown ones not being flushing with any of my pistols.  You should not have a problem having a Ed Brown MSH with your Dan Wesson but I can not guarantee it will be perfectly flush but it should be close unless the bob tail is not in spec.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not so much concerned with which texture to get, but rather if I even need the texture.  The back of the C-Bob looks pretty slick.

You will only know that after you shot and if you like the way it feels.

I have a 30lpi Ed Brown MSH on my Colt Combat Commander..IMO, it's got great grip with out being "grippy"...does that make sense? Is that even a word? Does these pants make me look fat?

It fit's flush with my Colt and I have used Brown MSH on Springers and Norinco's without any fitment issues.

I second that.

I got cha' Dog

I might as well pick up a checkered version when I purchase some new mags from Midway.  I can't stand the slick back on my MK9 or factory DE grips so it's a no-brainer

It would be nice to know if more people prefer the snake/chain types over the checkered though.  Are they more for looks or do they actually feel better?

+1

I've tried out a couple different front and backstrap combinations (thanks to Miller Custom and spending 2 hours at his shop) and checkering glues itself to your hand.

I chose 25lpi for my pistol because 20 felt a little much and you can only do it once! Of the other "treatments", I didn't like the feeling of all the edges of the chainlink pattern.

Go see if you can try them out, or buy it and install it on your frame and decide. If you don't like it, send it back and get a different one.

No but your grips make your butt look big,  Checkered for the OPs question, I'm one of those who like 20lpi, with 25 a minimum

The theory is, or was, that a smooth backstrap allows you to slide your hand around easier to make sight adjustments, while not making recoil any less controllable.

For these reasons, I like em smooth, but I'm sure it's about 80% psychological.
