I have the opportunity to buy an Ultra Eclipse (made in 03) for $600.  I already have several carry guns that I rotate based on season, attire, etc.  So this wouldn't be one of my primary carry guns.  Is this a good deal and what are your thoughts based on those of you who have actual experience with the Kimber Ultra Eclipse.

I would jump on it so long as it is not an external extractor Kimber.  Good deal if it is in good condition.

I can't speak for it specifically, but goodness that is a sweet gun.  That finish is gorgeous.

Wow, that's a low price for an eclipse.  What's wrong with it?

It does have the external extractor.  But the guy who has put 500 rnds down range with it says it has not failed to extract yet.  Also, the gun is in pristine shape.

I think Kimber will replace the slide with an internal extractor....just tell them it doesnt work right. May be wrong but I have heard that.

This has ben riding just under my armpit for 5 years and has survived.  That is all you need to know.  BTW......I dunno if this is the EE type, but, I have no problems with this gun.

Yes, your piece has the EE..."external extractor".  From what I've been able to gather; there was a period of time when Kimber switched from internal to external extractors.  Having an EE was the fad in early to mid 2000's.  Unfortunately, in the case of Kimber, they did not do their engineering homework properly, and it was a flop in many of their guns; having failure to extract issues.  Since then, they've gone back to nothing but internal extractors.  However, in your case, you seemed to have survived the odds.  I've purchased the gun so I'm hoping such is not the case with me.  I'm told Kimber will make it good if extraction problems present.  Thanks for the vote of confidence.
