Hi all, I am in the process of refinishing my full size 1911. I just bought an EGW Carry beveled barrel bushing in stainless, after getting it I realized that it has a thick flange. I think i will get a recoil plug that is extended to match this thicker flange(for looks). My 1911 came with FLGR. My question is would you toss the FLGR and opened end recoil plug? and go with the standard GI spring guide and recoil plug(extended ofcourse)?

I just eliminated another FLGR after picking up a GI plug and guide rod at a gunshow yesterday.

Or no... some folks like guide rods, some don't. I've never seen one cause an issue, and if it isn't a carry pistol, do what makes you feel good. I have pistols both with and without the rod, and they all function just fine...

I am the same way I have FLGR 2 piece, FLGR 1 piece (which I do not like), and GI rods.  If it is a carry pistol I put a GI rod in so it will cut down some weight.

Use what you like but I think the GI rods look better IMO.

I have both as well. I prefer GI. It's easier to take down. If it were me I'd toss the FLGR. If for no other reason I think it will look better. I have never noticed any advantage to a full lenght guide rod.

I won't go out of my way to replace a one-piece guide rod as long as it has enough clearance to allow the bushing to move.   Two-piece guide rods are a big pain in the ass, and I will usually go the extra mile to replace them with a GI setup.

Thank's,  I fitted the EGW Bushing last night, with an adjustable hand reamer that I orderd It worked perfectly! I also orderd an GI spring guide, and recoil plug, to match the thick flange of the EGW barrel bushing.
