Hi all, I am wanting to take on building my own 1911. I have found a lot of the parts to build a full size but I am really wanting to build a 3" for concealed carry. Does anyone know where I could find a bare frame to build a 3" on?
Thanks for any help

I just looked through the Brownell's catalog and came up with nada.

I'd try called STI to see if they will sell you a frame/slide.

I understand what you want to do, but my recommendation would be to build a 4/4.25 or full size 1911.  Compact 1911s tend to be more finicky in nature (smaller recoil spring, lack of barrel bushing).  If it's a gun you want to trust your life in, I would get a 4 inch or greater.  For the knowledge of 1911s I do have, I would never trust myself to build a gun that my life depends on.

Fusion has nice kits that have the most important parts finished (frame/slide, bushing, barrel and link).  Kits cost around 500-700.  You will need some small tools and stones to finish the build.

Just my 2 cents.

That sounds great! Does anyone have a link to the the site? After reading Gaspian's thread on his build I should take some baby steps! But I would still like to try building my own.
Thanks again,
TD
ETA: Found the site, looks good. Has anyone built one of these? This would be the very first 1911 that I have personally ever owned, if it helps, I just really enjoyed building my CMMG 16" lightweight AR and want to try a pistol.

Another idea would be to buy a Colt Commander on the EE (search and you might get one for $650) and then start from there.  You can learn to install / build a 1911 just by replacing parts on an existing gun.

When it comes to frames, Caspian is your friend.

Though, for a first time project, I would recommend starting with a 5" gun.  At the very minimum a 4 1/4" Commander style.

You could build a Commander style with a 4 1/4" slide on a compact frame.  That is my goal, though I may use a 4" slide and barrel which I already have.  In fact, if I bought a compact frame, that would free up a frame for my next project.

Hmmmm!
