I am considering getting one of these 1911's. I have read where some of the loaded models are made in the US while others are made in Brazil. Is there any way to find out which model is made where? It seems that fit and finsih are better on the NM marked serial numbered guns from what I have read.

Any pros/cons I should be aware of? About the only upgrade I know I would like to do is add a Dawson Precision rail. Any input is greatly appreciated.

The NM marked pistol are made in America.  To find a loaded brand new marked NM will be difficult most of them now are the TRP lines and higher.

The Loaded is a good pistol when you go to buy it dry fire it and feel the trigger.  I have seen brand new Loadeds with a trigger that was around 7lb or just the trigger breaks really trashy/sloppy instead of crisp.  Look at the sights make sure they are not installed wrong, check the ejection port make sure it is formed and cut right, and just feel the fit of the pistol between the slide and frame/look at fit between barrel and bushing.

On rare occasions you will get a SA Loaded that looks like a monkey put it together while he was drunk but for the most part I do not see that very often.  You should be find with the SA Loaded I am just giving you things to look out for same goes for any other brand.

I got a brand new "loaded" - made in Brazil - actually I believe that they are made by IMBEL in Brazil - it is a state owned factory that produces weapons for the Brazilian military.  I think Springfield has been buying slides and frames from Imbel since the 80's.  Nothing wrong with those as I believe they are all forged.  Mine has a nice trigger, but I am having trouble making it work with hollow points.  Yesterday I made some progress after more 100 rounds and some polishing on the feed ramp. It now feeds some hollow points if you load 7 rounds in a 8 round mag.

I have a Loaded made in Brazil the thing shoots just fine but I did do a complete rebuild and replaced most of the components on it to make it how I wanted it.

Alex you know that if you have an issue with your SA pistol you can call them up and they will fix it for you.  They have great customer service.

Unfortunately I would not be able to "hand pick" one because I would be ordering from a distributor under a friend's FFL. I may hold out for the TRPs to come back in stock or get an MC Operator like I originally wanted.

I would suggest this over the Loaded.  I have a TRP Armory Kote no rail and it has been nothing but solid awesomeness.

Thanks!  I think its time for me to "learn" about 1911's.  I dont feel like being w/o the gun for weeks, and as a matter of fact, it shoots really well. I think give it a couple of 100 rounds more and some more polishing, it will be eating all kinds of hollow points.  I am thinking in buying a cheap ass RIA, Taurus or Paraordinance, just to experiment with it...

I believe the MC Operators are NM marked as well.

You really can't go wrong. The Loaded's will have the greatest probability to have problems as most of them are built in Brazil, but they are still awesome pistols. I have 2.

The US made Loaded's, the MC Operator, and the TRP will be great pistols. I've heard that they're still not immune to problems, but they are fewer than the Brazilian made ones.

For the cheaper ones looks into RIA, Citadel, or some STI,

I don't want to buy a pistol to just turn around and replace most of the parts in it. I also don't want to buy a turd so I guess I will see what happens with this. I can get the parkerized loaded model I mentioned that comes with the night sights fior under $700 new which seemed like a good price.

I just picked one up a couple weeks ago and love it. I got mine for $750 out the door in a local shop. The one I have has a serial number that starts with "N", is this what you guys mean buy "NM" number? Mine says "Geneseo, IL USA" on it.

No, yours also says "Imbel Brazil" somewhere on the frame.  The NM guns are U.S. assembled on unfinished Brazilian frames, and therefore, don't require the Brazilian markings.

$700 is a good price, and a nice MC Operator will cost $1100, so you could buy the Loaded and have money left over for "upgrading."

Personally, I stick to the Optics Forum motto: buy once, cry once.  I'd buy the MC Operator.

I don't want to "have money left over" for any upgrading. I want whatever I get to be what it is out of the box without the "need" for upgrading,

it's simple, my friend.  if the frame doesn't say "brazil" on it, it was only forged in brazil & then completed in IL.

What part of the frame dose it say that? I have had the gun apart a few times now and did not see the imbel markings any place. Help me find these markings.

Never mind, I found it after a very close looking over. It is stamped made in Brazil right in front of the trigger, it is very very faint but there. Maybe the park job hides it more then a stainless or blued gun. Wow thought I had a US made gun.

Pistols that were 51% or more assembled in Brazil will have Made n Brazil stamped on it, and those that were assembled 51% plus in Illinois will only have the Geneseo stamp regardless of the serial number prefix. This is straight from the SA sales rep I emailed.  I take this to mean that there is no guarantee of 100% US assembly unless it is a custom shop pistol.

I was worried about Brazil pistols, but after finding out about the above I just didn't care. With the lifetime warranty I'd just send it to Geneseo for any defect or poor craftmanship anyhow.

I just bought a PX9152LP - loaded black stainless target.

I have a loaded lightweight 5" that was made in brazil.  The trigger was the shittiest of any 1911 Ive ever shot.  I sent it to EGW (5 miles from my house) to do a trigger job and barrel bushing and its been perfect.  The fit and finish are very good, and other than the horrible stock trigger.

On Springfield's website I looked at their stock photos of their 1911 series guns. The stainless Mil Spec model shown has a NM prefixed serial number. Anyone know anything about this??????? If this one was US made I could live with the Mil Spec model.
