Picked up a Colt Combat Commander today for $500. The only "bad" thing is that someone tried to "polish" the stainless...thankfully they did not ruin any roll marks.

It will a base gun for a project.

Nice score.  I sold one years ago just like it.  I am having a hard time not smashing my face into my desk as I am looking for another one now.

Looks good, Dog1.
I have two Commanders myself, a .45 and a 9mm. I can tell you .45 Commanders have bit of a kick to them but they are great pistols.

1980's era .45 on left, 1952 Light Weight 9mm on the right.

Nice pair..

I'm no stranger to the Commander size..I have a few in the past.

I have not had a 1911 in the stable for about 2 years.

I just finished test firing it...I was surprised to see that it fed everything I put in it, ball, Speer GD, Golden Saber and Hydra Shok.

Good find; perfect platform for a custom carry piece. Just have the gun PROFESSIONALLY polished to get rid of the n00b-work; then replace the controls with parts from either Wilson Combat or Fusion. Have fun.

Nice ... Other then the grips I like it.

Update-I tore into it and found some disappointing things.

Under the grips there is pitting. The grip screws were rusted to the bushings, so when I removed the grips the bushings came alone for the ride. It took soaking in penetrating oil for an hour and another 30 minutes of working to free them from the bushings, without damaging the the threads on the bushings.

The pitting, while not pervasive, is deep. Thankfully it's under the grips.

Inside the slide, where the recoil plug sits, was rusted, badly. It took another soaking in penetrating oil and a scrubbing with a new brass brush to remove, but again, there is some pitting.

I'm a tad bummed....I have not yet decided what I will do with it.

It cleaned up fairly well. I might take it to another gunshow that I'm going to tomorrow and I might try to sell it. Full disclosure on the issues.

If it were mine, full dissassemble, clean any rust, and full bead blast on the slide and frame for a nice even matte finish. (shiny guns are for BBQ, not carry)

Thanks...I think, once I'm done, I will be very happy with it..it was the first look after getting it home from the gunshow was a tad of a let down.
