Which bullet has a LOWER point of impact ?  A heavier bullet or a lighter bullet?  A slower bullet or a faster bullet?  The said question would be pertaining to a commander size 1911. Distance would be 7 to 10 yards.

Thanks NVGdude , I'm shooting a 230 grain Golden Saber , so should I drop to a 185 grain or possibly a165 grain to drop 3 inches? Should I go standard pressure or +P?

Why not pick the ammo you like and adjust your sites?

At 7-10 yards there is nothing you can load that is going to give you a 3" change in POA\POI. Lightly loaded 185gr wadcutters will give you a 3" drop, but that's between the 50 and 25 yard targets.

You want a heavier bullet for SD, because that's the point of the .45, the big, heavy bullet moving at moderate velocities. I'm with Tommy2399.

Fixed sight service weapons (especially 1911s) are generally designed to hit 3 " above point of aim at 25 yards so that they hit in the x-ring on a standard 25 yard bullseye using a proper 6-o'clock hold.

Thanks for the info y'all. The solution could be a shorter rear sight?

Depending on your budget and site you may be able to just file it down.

I recently added a higher rear site to raise my POI
